Although my reservation was made 3 months in advance on an AmEx card that had not been cancelled or expired in 33 years, they cancelled my reservation during a huge show (OTC) and lied, first saying my room was not guaranteed, then changing it to my "card was expired." (neither situation is possible if making online reservations!) They offered a lower quality replacement room at Homewood, a sister property almost a mile away, but had no means of getting me there (I had dismissed my cab) -- their shuttle driver retired for the evening (8pm) and was not answering the phone.

Days later they conceded that they had overbooked, but did not alert me of the cancellation although they had means and at least 5 hours to do so. (I could have at least taken my cab there!) As I protested my poor treatment and their lack of courtesy, the desk clerk threatened to deny me access to a replacement room. When I finally got the attention of a hotel manager and the hotel group's area manager, both said, "this happens often in our industry," (first time for me in 35 years!) and stated that an apology and replacement bed is all they needed to offer.

I suspect the management uses this strategy to ensure bookings at their less desirable properties during big events. If you plan to stay near the Astrodome, (or anywhere in Houston) be warned about staying at any Extended Stay / Homestead properties owned by this group.

Not sure why the other reviews of this hotel were bad. Staff was very friendly, property was clean - inside and out. Property felt safe and secure. Great location if you are going to Reliant Stadium. We selected this location so our adult daughter and boyfriend could be within walking distance of Reliant Stadium and restaurants as we were going to drive to Galveston while they attended an event at the stadium (leaving them without transportation). We were very concerned about this hotel due to the poor reviews but, couldn't find a better location for what we needed. I brought my own cleaning supplies because of the negative reviews!! I did NOT need to use them as the rooms were very clean.

The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. We felt safe at all times. Our room was quiet and comfortable. It did not smell bad and the air conditioner was VERY cold.

We could not see any reason why anyone would give this property a bad review. We do not have anything negative to say about this hotel. We stayed two nights and did not encounter any problems.

Tips: They do not have an ice machine. There are ice trays in the freezer in your room...just make sure you fill it when you arrive so you have ice cubes when needed.

The postiive side of the hotel is its location, which is not pretty but practical because it is very close to the medical center.

My negative experiences are manifold. The entire hotel is not clean and pretty smelly and I had to change my room twice at the day of arrival before finally getting one that was acceptable. The staff was not friendly and reluctant to deal with clients' requests.

Room service had to be paid extra each night, a fact that is not indicated on the booking site.

Room was freezing when we first arrived. No big deal, until we realized there were no knobs to turn it down. No service staff on in the evening so we finally just unplugged it. When we turned the television around in orde to watch from bed the electricity on one whole side of the room went out. Again no service staff available. The next day the service man came and beat on the wall for awhile till the television came back on and proclaimed that we had a short in room and to call if there were any more problems. Ran out of toilet paper on the 2nd day, called and requested another roll since maid service is unavailable. We were told we have to buy toilet paper and Kleenex. When we told the office staff of things not working they promised a discount for the first night. When we got ready to leave we had to put off our departure time because there was no office staff to clear out our account and give the discount. Could have gone on for the $20 they discounted. Would not recommend for anyone to put money into this.
