Considering i was watching the news and only an hour drive away the drug cartel had a shoot out in reynosa and a 3 year old was kidnapped and luckily released in harlingen but other then that i found the hotel was nice and safe.

alot of bussiness people some families but no 10,000 kids running around. The pool was warm. It sits in the 104 degree weather all day. The jacuzzi is wayyyy to hot to enjoy during the day becuase it sits in 104 degree weather. Wait till night time to enjoy the jacuzzi.

The rooms were nice except the ac. You need to turn it down to 65 to get cold in the room. Althought its not to cold it gets more like a muggy humid cold. You wake up with sweat on your neck then the ac compressor kicks in at 3 when the weather has cooled down and then it get gets cold and the blankets you have are not enough. You can turn the temp to 70 degrees but then you will wake up sweating again.

There is no water in the coke machines but the front desk gives them to you for free! The breakfest is ok not the best. Just drive down the road and find a taco place and get some delicious breakfest tacos. Very big hint: if there are alot of cars at the taco house then its a good restuarant.......

Beds are very uncomfortable. When you sleep you are supposed to sleep flat with an arch in your lower back. When you sleep in these beds you sleep with a bowed curve in your lower back. It does not support you lower arch in your back and then the uncomfortableness of waking up 5 or 6 times a night happens. Not good at all.

The staff was friendly...there are restaurants walking distance...chilis and others and a movie theatres in front of the hotel....

I travel weekly on business, typically staying in a Marriott-brand, but this time thought I would give HIE a shot.
They say first impressions are everything...receptionist didn't make eye contact and was less than happy to be there (jt seemed).
Room was old, fixtures had begun to show signs of rust. Worst of all was an extremely strong moldy smell! I'm an allergy-prone type, but thought I could get through this by spraying some body spray,etc. I should have asked for a different room our just went around the corner to the Courtyard, but nooooo.
So I paid the price with an upper respiratory infection for the next 3-4 days.
I'm headed there again today on business and you can bet I'll stay at the Courtyard instead.

We stay here once a year because of its location being close to the people we visit. They are improving the rooms and the public areas. The breakfast was quite good for this type of place. The staff is not that knowledgeable but are very friendly. If you like HIEs, you will like this one.

I stayed one night here and found it to be a good place to stay. It's near the airport and there are several restaurants within walking distance. The staff are competent and I had no problems.
