“A pretty alternative to airport hotels and eating in strip mall chain restaurants”
This is a pretty place to stay, in a quiet neighborhood. If you enjoy Christmas decorations and displays, you'll probably enjoy walking just one block away from the b&b to enjoy shopping, eating, and admiring the Christmas displays in an old town environment wonderfully free of chain stores for several blocks. Although it was expensive, we really enjoyed the food at Dino's steakhouse, along with some wonderful live music by Christian David Soto. There is a polar express train for the kids to enjoy, although we didn't take it. There are also wineries in Grapevine. The breakfasts were good (egg dishes both mornings, along with homemade biscuits and lots of good fresh fruit). It was nice to come in at night and warm up before the fire (gas?) and Christmas displays in the pretty livingroom. We used this as a base to visit the very nice Caravaggio exhibit at the wonderful Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, as well as a concert at the Verizon Theater. Both were about 30 minutes away. Since there is a lot of highway construction now in the Grapevine and airport area, and since the numerous highway ramps and interchanges were confusing to us, we allowed extra time since we got lost a few times. The airport car rental was about 10 minutes away. If you can affort to stay at the Garden Manor Inn (rooms start at $159 plus tax), this is a pretty and nice alternative to staying at airport hotels.
