I am truly stumped over any of the negative reviews I had read regarding this little gem of a place. From the staff to the quick and easy and FREE wifi hookup, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, Maybe they don't travel enough or just had unrealistic expectations. I actually was staying at the Gaylord and checked out since large resort style (and remote) properties are not my cup of tea.
The room was comfortable and immaculate. The staff superb- so superb I asked for everyone's name so I could name them in this review- Cynthia at the front desk who took my call seeking a more cozy hotel, BIll the shuttle driver who picked me up at the Gaylord (a FREE service I might add), Uamir the operations manager who went out of his way to ask if I was enjoying my stay or needed anything and the other shuttle driver Calvin, who happily took me where I needed to go. I mean what else could someone want? Free food...oh yeah, they offer that too! Great hot breakfast with a good assortment and a nice evening reception with a full meal (which I never had a chance to sample but how nice it was there if I wanted it- a menu was posted on the fridge in the room- oh yeah, there is a fridge in there as well, quite handy for my sodas. I don't know why I liked this place so much, but having stayed at some of the best hotels in the world (including the Waldorf, Ritz Carlton, etc.) this little Homewood held its own and managed to earn its spot in my heart.
I call em as I see em and this place is a gem.

We always try to stay at a Homewood Suites because of the great rooms, service and anemities. This was our first stay at the property at Grapevine Mills. When first greeted at the receptionist desk, all was the norm ... very friendly, very welcomed. Walked into the room and knew instantly this was not the normal Homewood Suite layout. Found out later it was originally a Hawthorne Suites. Very, very small. No room to walk around the bed in bedroom. Sitting chair was next to couch with no space in between. TVs were very, very old. Air conditioner worked half of the time. Crickets were in the bathroom. Couch smelled of smoke. WiFi didn't work half of the time and were told to contact outside source. I will continue to use Homewood Suites, but not this particular property. I was so disappointed.

I stayed here for a conference a couple of nights from Sep 19-21 and everything was pretty good except for the Internet service. I could hardly believe a prior review that said fast Internet. I felt like I was using an old 2400 baud modem it was so slow. I called the front desk and they routed me through to a third party company who handles the network I guess. They didn't show anything odd on their end but did admit to receiving calls about it already. Was assured it was being looked into. Well nothing was fixed for my remaining time there. My colleagues experienced the same thing so I knew it wasn't my laptop. Probably not a big deal for most but I had a lot of down time to spend there and it was frustrating to say the least as I had work to do from back home. Maybe it was a one time thing, I dunno.

We stayed at this hotel over the 4th of July holiday weekend. When we checked in - the toilet in our room was not working. That is unacceptable!!! We called the front desk immediately and they refused to move us to another room. We had just arrived; and we had not even unpacked. They said they would fix it. We left to do some shopping and when we came back the toilet was barely working. The entire time we were there it barely worked. I cannot comprehend why a hotel would even put guests in a room that is not functional. Especially the bathroom!! And OMG! The beds were horrible. The king size bed mattress leaned to one side. We had to sleep on a diagnol so we wouldn;t roll off the bed. I had back pain from the terrible mattresses. The sofa bed was terrible; the mattress was stained. We piled all the bedding on top of the mattress and you could still feel the bars under the matttress. The bed also leaned in a funky way and our son had to sleep in an awkward position otherwise half his body would lean over to one side. The breakfast buffet was not terrible but it wasn't great. There was never enough food out and you had to wait a while until more food was brought out. Also, they picked up the food before 10am and there were guests who weren't allowed to get food. The pool is too small and only allows 11 people in there. It smells too much of chlorine. the spa was so chlorinated it burned my skin. Overall...I think that either they need to step up their service and have functioning rooms with comfortable beds or they need to lower their price. Seriously! For that price - you want a working toilet!! I will not stay at this hotel again and most certainly wil not recommend it to anyone.
