“Nice place to stay, but some issues”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2007

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Nutt House Hotel (nice name, eh?) in Granbury for 2 nights during the weekend. The accomodations were top notch as far as the bedding, bathroom, decor, and location are concerned. The hotel has a very rustic, antique feel to it, so it fits in well with the rest of Granbury's town square. The staff are very attentive and friendly. The manager was very helpful when I asked her about other places to see. Those were the good things. Now for the not so good. The hot water system in this hotel is really weird. They have a notice in the room telling you that the hot water system is "brand new" and "European styled" and that you have to run the water for a while to get it hot. Well, that's true, but after about 5 minutes of hot, the water goes ice cold. You have to keep running the bath water while the shower is going to get the hot to come back and stay, for 5 minute intervals. The notice in the room even suggests as much! We wanted to notify the owner about the water issue, but there were no staff on site when we left on Sunday. You just leave your key at the front desk. We basically could have stayed all day apparently instead of checking out at 11 am like honest folks. I think there is a phone number you can call to reach someone, but that's not the same as having someone there. The only other issue we had was that the room had a very strong and unpleasant fragrance, probably from the couple of Glade plug-ins that were plugged in. But that's just personal preference. It probably would have smelled like stale old books otherwise, and that would have been worse. If the hotel gets the water fixed, it would be a fantastic place. But with that issue, it's just above average.

“Very relaxing and pleasant”

My Husband and I stayed at this wonderful old hotel in August of 2004. We had easy access to the building after hours with a code lock. Our room was beautiful, King bed, large soaking tub with a separate shower. The bed linens were high quality, extra bath towels and robes. We felt pampered. We were right on the square with easy access to shopping and restaurants. The restaurant in the same building is operated by a different company and is not accessible form the hotel lobby. We have stayed in a few Bed and Breakfasts and consider this old hotel the best yet. Breakfast is not included, but there are places on the square to eat at.

“Worst experience we ever had!”

My wife and I went there in the summer. We arrived to find a padlock on
the door, and a phone number to call. We called and then waited a half
hour for the owner to show up (in 100 degree heat). When the owner did
show up, our room itself must have been very close to the outside 100
degrees! The owner said we could wait in the lobby until the room
cooled down in about another half hour! We explained that we had dinner
reservations at a nice restaurant in one hour, and could not wait that
long. The owner told us if we did not stay, she'd charge us anyway!
Which she did. No amount of rational argument had any effect on her.
It was worst experience of my many years travelling both in the U. S. and around the world. Save yourself headaches and money. Stay away from this place like it was a case of Monkey Pox.
