Pictures are deceiving. Wish you could have a scratch and sniff on the computer to determine what the room was going to smell like.

Mediocre room, musty smell, inferior air conditioning, wind tunnel outside room that wistled all night and around the door into our room.

Check-in was easy; easy cab ride to the strand. Right across the street from the beach. Cool little karoeke bar on the property

My recent stay at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort was perfect! The hotel is located directly in front of the ocean!! Our room came with a balcony over looking the gulf of Mexico. The hotel is updated with your typical hotel furniture, but with a nice tropical touch added in. The staff was outstanding. I would like to give extra kudos to Malcolm who did a fantastic job of checking us in. He was very nice and recommended a excellent place called "the spot" for me and my friends to eat at. Also, Stephanie the front desk manager was so sweet and personable!! It's very obvious she was made for the hospitality industry. She was so kind to bring me some soap for the laundry room, after I accidentally purchased the wrong product. Last but not least was the shuttle driver. I believe his name was Carl. He picked us up from the cruise ship terminal after we had been stranded on the ship due to the fog. His personality made up for our bad day. He and the rest of the staff clearly make this hotel exceptional!!!! I recommend this hotel to ALL travels going to Galveston, TX!

As mentioned earlier an older Holiday Inn with older features, though they did have a flat screen TV. Beds were comfortable, the room was clean though it did have lights out and a slow to drain tub. I figured out how to get the bathroom light on by jiggling the fixture, they never fixed the tub in my 4 day stay. The bar out in front is probably the best thing about this hotel, friendly staff and reasonable prices. We didn't eat in the restaurant but walked to the place next door for breakfast which was good. I understand why people say the staff is no good. They aren't rude just seem clueless about the property and how things work here. If the rate was right it'd be fine. I happen to have been here for an event and the prices were outrageous for what we received. I'd stay in the Galvez down the street next time.

This is an horrible hotel. If I could give it no stars, I would.

- The locks are flimsy and corroded (I didn't feel happy about leaving anything in the room)
- The corridors stink of vomit (honestly, it was quite revolting)
- The rooms are tired and dirty (although, the bathrooms are clean)
- The staff are unhelpful (but only if you can find them)

As for location, well it overlooks the beach (the other side of six lanes of traffic) - but there are miles and miles of beach here, so that's nothing special.

In all, it's moderately cheap and not very cheerful. Better value could be had from a motel - or a piece of scrub land, a couple of sticks and and an old coat.
