“It's ok for a night's stay before a cruise, sort of.”

We stayed here the night before our Carnival Cruise. Now don't get me wrong, its not bad, and has some nice features, but overall it is just so-so. We have stayed in cleaner hotels, but have stayed in worse too. Rooms were pleasant and beds were comfortable, but even though it has been re-done it was a little rough around the edges, but that is just being picky. If you just need a reasonable place to stay then its fine. If you are going on a cruise ship, they do offer a shuttle for $15 for the family and allow you to park your car there. The problem with it is there is only one van that shuttles, and many that signed up for it which means they were booked from 10 am to 2 pm just shuttling people, about a 10 min drive one way to the pier. Not a big deal going to the pier since you can just hang out in the lobby but coming back is awful since it takes them hours to get everyone back. Some waited over 2.5 hours at the pier to get back to their car. I would advise paying $15 more to park at the pier and you are 1 block to your car when you get off.
The beach across the street which is across the highway doesn't exist, it was washed out when we were there and has been since the Hurricane a few years ago. You have to go about a mile to the North to get to the beach if that is important to you; so don't plan on just walking across the street to sit in the sand, it won't happen.
In conclusion, if you don't pay a lot for this hotel, its ok, otherwise you can do better.

“Hotel manager really in to guest well being”

We stayed during the motorcycle rally last fall and it was very nice. The manager was in to making sure all the guest were happy as well as theywere having a good time. Internet was fine as well as the standard LQ breakfast. All the rooms have small patios that are at a 45 degree to the ocean so all get a little view.

“Planned as first class, it is slowly going low-cost”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

This property on Galveston seaside is located just across the beach and is an excellent hotel except for some housekeeping and maintenance issues.

We checked-in well after four in the afternoon. When we arrived to our room, the door was open. We asked a Housekeeper in black uniform (not a La Quinta color) if we could come in and she agreed, mentioning only pillowcases were to be replaced.

After a 40-minute wait, Housekeeping Supervisor came into our room and asked about us being there, as the work was not finished. After a thorough quality check, Supervisor determined jobs to be done were more than just changing pillowcases. That said, a different Housekeeper, this time in La Quinta uniform, came in and changed all linens and cleaned and fully equipped the bathroom. Thanks to the Supervisor, the situation was resolved.

Once in the room, we realized we could not check our e-mail. Signal was quite good in the corridor but inexistent in the room. We were told signal was low in some parts of the building so we had to connect in the lobby or connect by wire, what we couldn't do due to our only-wifi computers.

At 2:30 in the morning, the air conditioning started making a high noise that woke us up. After turning it off and on, the noise disappeared... only to come back at 3:30! Off, on, off, on, it stayed making noise so the only solution was to turn cool off and keeping the fan on, what was not good due to outdoor temperature and humidity. Next day at 11:30 we were moved to a different room, with a working A/C and reasonable Internet signal.

Anyway, carpet in the rooms was quite stained, furniture and mirrors were pretty much worn out, damaged walls were unevenly plastered and painted, rust is invading vents, door handles and other metal parts, gift shop and excursion desks looked like vandalized and condemned, etc. And all of it doesn't match with the presence and appearance of this construction (not to mention age, since it's a quite new property,). Regarding breakfast, refilling was not as expected (nobody was around looking after it) so empty trays and containers were common.

Is it because it's on the beach? Is it a let-it-decay on a purpose? Is it because someone is trying to save money in housekeeping and maintenance? If so, this measures will kick back after a time, affecting quality, customer satisfaction, business and La Quinta's brand.

Room Tip: Should you need an Internet connection, don't stay at mid-numbered rooms.
