My husband I and our 2 small grandchildren spent two nights at the Reef and if I had had any other options for housing I would have taken them. The place is disqustinly filthy and worn out. When we first arrived we attempted to walk out on our patio and couldnt get the door open enough to do so. So we called maintenance and got quick response - but still the door was a chore to open. We were never able to open the patio doors from the bedroom. But after walking out on the patio, my husband walked over to the outside storage - just out of curoisity - to see what was in it - and the door fell off the hinges. The loveseat (there was no couch) was so filthy we didnt want to sit on it. The kitchn was very sparsly furnished. The refrigerator freezer had a hole in the bottom of it and there werent even any ice cube trays!!! And no complimentary ice provided by the Reef! The shelve above the drawers in the refigerator was also missing. The only positive thing I can say about The Reef is that it has a lot of space. And it is a shame to let such a property in such a great location get in this condition. This place is a disgrace to Galveston Island and should be torn down or told to clean up their act. It makes me sick to think what I paid to stay here. My advice to anyone is to pay the little extra and stay in a decent, clean, well appointed place and not ruin your vacation. We went to The Reef Resort for our first visit to Galveston, TX for the Memorial Day Weekend We chose that place as it was the only place that would allow dogs and it looked very nice on their website. Some might be saying that the fact that they allowed dogs meant it was not a very`clean place though we've been to others that have managed just fine.

As soon as we walk in and I have to go to the restroom, I'm met by a dead cockroach next to the toilet. We call the front desk to let them know and they just can't believe it, so we have them come pick up the roach. The lady told us that they just had the pest control guy come and spray as a preventative measure so that's why we saw it. Excuse me, but they sholuld have been preventing all year round, not just for the start of summer. That was just the beginning.

Other problems we encountered were more dead bugs, maids that don't vacuum or pick up the trash( their excuse that it's a new maintenance staff), dirty dishes, and a broken water heater.

For 3 nights with the pet deposit we paid $450, they were nice enough to refund us $50.

On one positive note, all the front desk staff was very helpful when it came to giving us suggestions on what to do around Galveston, and we did have a magnificent view of the ocean albeit in a dilapidated suite

The only thing remotely nice about this place was the nice lady who worked nights and the other nice lady that worked Saturday morning.
The number that they give you AND post on everything, is a number to reach a guest only, and a beeper number, to call and you're supposed to get a response in "30 Minutes", yeah right! I never got a response and I got lost, because mapquest was wrong and of course you couldn't ever get a hold of someone to ask for directions. The rooms DO NOT have DVD and VCR players as stated in their overview. When I checked in it was 75 degrees in the room - 2 hours later it was 80 degrees, and when I checked out on Sunday it was 85 degrees. The VERY RUDE manager on Sunday said she could not do anything for me (as in, discount anything) because I had MADE MY RESERVATIONS ON LINE!!!!!!!!!! So, you're punished if you make your reservations online, plus they don't have anything to do with you if you made your reservations online. The site, which I did not pull up myself, I just typed in Reef Resort, Galveston, Tx., credited me the 9.80 that they charged. But, I ended up paying 362.00 for a trip for one person, that I was NOT taken care of. Also, the elevators in this place, gave me the heebie jeebies, there's holes in the floor of the elevators. There's actually holes in the floor of the condo I stayed in. I would encourage every person going on a vacation to Galveston, not to stay at the Reef Resort, find somewhere else to stay, you'll be very happy that you didn't even waste your time.

We stayed at the resort for 4 days. It was very clean. We were able to take our boxer (who weighs 100 pounds) and had no problems whatsoever. We would go back in a heartbeat.
