I stayed here for an Oracle conference Nov 7-10 so got the conf room rate of $99/night w/o taxes. I’d stay here again because it is clean with lots of amenities I like and walking distance to Oracle and lots of other attractions.
I got a “king studio” on the 2nd floor facing the front of the hotel. It was extremely large with plenty of room for two adults, though it was just me. Very nice furnishings all looked brand new and were in working condition. I used the free wi-fi in my room to surf the net on my tablet and it worked just fine; they also had a “land line” internet connect at the desk. My room had the now standard in room coffee maker and hair dryer though I did not use either. The studio also came with a mini fridge and microwave. The fridge was plenty cold. Even though they provided complimentary microwave popcorn, I did not use the microwave. The bathroom was quite large for this price point hotel and very nicely appointed with everything in perfect working order. The towels & toiletries were adequate. The bed was comfortable and the linens were clean and very soft; the pillows were comfortable for a side sleeper like me too. The curtains kept the room nice and dark from the daylight. My room was cleaned thoroughly every day though I always tip the housekeeping staff daily when the room is acceptable (I’m sure that helps).
The hotel has an outdoor pool only; no hot tub which was a disappointment. And this time of year it was too cold to use the pool. I used a PC in the business center and it was acceptable but another guest tried to use the other PC and said it was slower than molasses. There is also a fitness room with a TV and some equipment but it is tiny and the weather was nice so I walked outside. They have a free breakfast every morn and “to go” bags for those on the run. The selection was excellent for the price of the room: cold cereal, hot oatmeal, an egg dish (scrambled or omelets-which were excellent), bacon (not so good-overcooked), hot potatoes, make your own waffles (my favorite), biscuits & gravy, bagels, toast, yogurt, milk, fresh fruit (apples, bananas), juice, tea and coffee. Two employees stood by to keep everything stocked and at the correct temperatures. On Monday-Thursday nights they have an “evening reception” with 2 free beers or glasses of wine (red or white) and some food. Since we had dinners planned every night, I did not partake in that food. Coworkers liked the bottled beers and the red wine was acceptable. All the staff was pleasant, helpful and friendly. It’s near lots of things to do and places to eat. There is even a nice park area next to the hotel to go walking. Frisco appears very “upscale” to me but people are nice and drivers yield to pedestrians.
The down sides: 1) The a/c unit. When it turned off and on, it was so loud it woke me up. Other coworkers complained of the same problem so it was not just my room. The next night I tried to keep it off but it got way too hot. On the last night I just constantly ran the fan w/ the a/c and that was acceptable; it kept the room comfortable and the constant white noise of the fan let me sleep through the night, even when the a/c kicked on/off. 2) Noise. From my room, I could hear when doors closed, when people were in the hall and even the elevators which were a good 30 feet from my room. The sound proofing is pretty much none existent so be prepared. Luckily if there were any guest in rooms around mine, they were very quiet because I did not hear them or a TV. 3) Waste. There was no recycling I could find and everything was disposables. Plus for some unknown reason, the soap was thrown out every day and replaced with a fresh one (completely unnecessary) but the shampoo & conditioner were not (which was acceptable). Strange. And I realize this is TX but that much waste is unacceptable. 4) No hot tub. After a long day, I like to relax in a nice, hot hot tub. I missed that on this trip.
I would stay here again at that price, maybe a bit more; I think it is a great value. Just don’t expect too much considering the cost; this is not 5 star accommodations.
