“No Hot Water!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Do not stay here if you want hot water!! We checked in on a Saturday for only one nite, thought we were splurging on a hotel room, the next morning we discovered the hotel did not have any hot water!! I was told over the phone, by the manager on duty, that we would receive a 1 day credit for the problem, she even told me if I knew anyone on floors 2-5, I can use their shower, cause they have hot water! When we checked out, there was a different manager who said "Oh no, we wouldn't credit a one nite stay, the going rate is $20". In speaking with other guests this was the second day without hot water!! They let us check in with a baby, knowing they did not have hot water. The manager said "we have hot water now", and he lauged. It was noon, and check out time is noon. Other staff was friendly, location is nice. Our room was not clean to my standards. $200 room, dissapointed, not worth it. :(

Room Tip: Make sure they can provide hot water

“"Spend your money somewhere else"”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

We stayed at this hotel January 14-15 in room 826. All this hotel has going for it is location it is right across the street from the Convention center and is conveniently located to several restaurants within walking distance. The rooms are in major need of remodeling. The walls need a fresh coat of paint, the carpet had stains all over it, and the room had a very musty smell. The shower had no water pressure. I understand that this is a Historic hotel, but for the price of the rooms you think they could at least keep it updated. When I was in the room it made me feel dirty. After the first night I woke in in the morning and realized that I had dog hair all over my pants, and I must say I do not have pets. Housekeeping cleaned our room the next day and they did not restock our towels, coffee, sugar, etc. The dirty glasses from the night before were still left in the room. It was just not a pleasant experience. The valet is nice, but for the $20.00 extra fee a night is ridiculous. The valet was so backed up we had to wait 30 minutes to get our car. I would not recommend spending your money to stay at this hotel. Find somewhere else it is not worth the money.

“Historic Hotel - Pleasant Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

The Hilton Forth Worth has a small place in history. It was the former Texas Hotel where JFK spent his last night before traveling to Dallas on that fateful day - November 23rd, 1963. The hotel keeps it's place by making it well known to guests - that this was his last stay. The hotel has many photos of JFK and Jackie throughout the building, and the staff even wear a presidential seal as a lapel pin.

The property itself is centrally located near the now vibrant downtown Ft. Woth. Only a few blocks from IH 30 which makes it a very convenient spot. Del Friscos Steak House is across the street. It has it's own Starbucks inside.

The property is very well maintained for a building that was built in the 1930's. With that said, most rooms will be a tad smaller than newer properties.

I am a Hilton Diamond member so I was upgraded to the 15th floor. My room had 15 foot ceilings with long heavy drapes to cover the three windows.

HOWEVER, my bath area had a distinct odor. Sour milk? Mold? Not sure. I spent one night but since my wife was joining me for a long weekend, I asked to be moved the next morning.

Leave it to Hilton (the good ones). I received a voice mail during a meeting that day from the manager in charge apologizing for the inconvenience. She assured me that she would move me; inspect the room I'll be switched to personally and provide my wife and I with a bottle of wine and chocolate covered strawberries for the inconvenience. And she did!

Our second room was across from the Presidential Suite (check out web site). The hallway down there is covered with photos of JFK and Jackie on their last trip to FW and the hotel.

Pros - great location; staff; cleanliness; service.
Cons - only valet parking; rooms a little smaller than most; some furniture needs to be replaced.

Over all - stay there. I would again!

Room Tip: If you're a Hilton Honors member, don't forget to REQUEST an upgrade. I never demand one...

“Don't book this hotel through a 3rd party”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012
1
person found this review helpful

3rd party bookings get the smoking rooms and zero special requests. The room smells like an ash tray and they staff will "Febreeze" it for you and say they are sorry. The hotel is somewhat updated but the rooms still have popcorn ceilings and the walls are paper thin and need a new coat of paint. The location is great but we've experienced much nicer hotels in downtown Fort Worth. The room was a nice size, but needs attention like the closet doors were off track and couldn't be moved, the towel rack was about to come out of the wall, dingy looking and smelly. JFK stayed here signs are everywhere which is cool but they need to focus on the guests here and now.

Thank you for staying with us and taking time to provide valuable comments regarding your stay. We will be moving to a Non Smoking Hotel shortly as it is tough to eliminate the smoke odor. We will be adding to all our rooms this year- new in room safes and new in room refrigerators. If you are able to remember your room number- as I would like to addres the closet door it would great. I also thank you for recognizing the historic nature of the hotel. Thank you again. Dave Fulton VP and General Manager. email dave.fulton@hilton.com

“Historic place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

We had not realized that this hotel was where JFK spent his last night. A historic place.....We really liked this hotel. The room was large and comfortable, the staff was superfriendly and helpful and the location (walking distance from Sundance square) was perfect. We loved the complimentary chocolate chip cookies and apple cider in the lobby! Only downside: no free wifi.
