“Kiss the cookie-cutter interstate motels goodbye”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2010

More hotel than bed & breakfast although the owners do live on-site. Set next to a historic movie theater and one block off the historic courthouse square, this historic hotel provides a better experience than the hotels on the interstate. Downtown Eastland is only a short mile or two off the interstate and provides an authentic small town Texas experience. Eastland is still working to revive its downtown with a performing arts theater opening in late 2010 but the downtown still has plenty of daytime activity. The hotel is tastefully decorated and nicely appointed without the overwhelming fru-fru sometimes associated with bed & breakfasts. The rooms are all reasonably sized and some are very generous with nicely appointed baths attached to each room. There is an elevator to reach the rooms which are located on the second floor. Parking is easily provided on the streets immediately adjacent to the hotel. There are not individual phones in the room but there is free wireless internet provided and cell service reaches the hotel along with televisions in the rooms. Drinks, snacks, fruit and dishes are provided free in the small kitchen area. There is an outdoor pool and a local hole-in-the wall cafe on the square offers a good inexpensive breakfast that beats the free continental breakfast bar at most chain hotels. No need to stay where the room looks just like the one the night before when your needs can be more than met at the Historic Eastland Hotel.

“Very nice and historic”

We really enjoyed our stays at the Eastland Hotel. We were moving from Dallas to Midland and needed to make two trips and each time needed someplace to stay along the way. The hosts were friendly and helpful each time and we were able to get rooms the same day we called.

The building is a restored old hotel with historic architectural features like high ceilings with decorative tin patterns, transom windows and authentic old doors . Each room is individually decorated and had king-sized beds, ceiling fans, good individually-controlled air conditioning, flat-screen cable TV, and bath with tub and shower. The bathrooms have modern fixtures and were well maintained. Each room also has a table and chairs and upholstered chairs.

There is a long staircase you walk up to get to the rooms on the second floor but there is also a modern elevator available. There are a few parking spaces on the curb in front of and next to the hotel, but there is a large, secure, well-lit parking lot a block away.

In the hallway is a guests' kitchenette with microwave, sink and refrigerator, plates, cups and glasses. They provide complimentary food which you can serve yourself any time including Eggo waffles with butter and syrup available, Hot Pockets, sodas, orange juice, milk, Kelloggs cereals, and coffee cream. There is a little coffee maker in the rooms' bathroom which you put a cup under and there are two packets of coffee provided, each makes one cup.

The hotel provides free wireless internet access but since we didn't have a laptop with us we didn't use it. I think they have a swimming pool too but we never got around to checking it out.

We will definitely stay at the Eastland Hotel again when in the area. Also it is right next to a historic movie theatre but the theatre only does shows weekend evenings. The hotel is right downtown and only about a mile and a half from the interstate.

Very nice property. Having stayed in the other VERY limited properties, this was a breath of fresh air. It was like staying at someone's home, but they were out of town. :-)

“Great place to stay”

We loved our stay at the Eastland Hotel. The hosts were very nice and the room was great. We had a flood at our nearby lake cabin and stayed at the Eastland hotel while we worked on remodeling. The lovely old clawfoot bathtub provided a much-needed soak at the end of a hard and very physical day. We will definitely return!

“Charming, pleasant stay”

The EASTLAND B&B is the kind of place you think of when you think B&B. A well-run, homey, friendly and charming place, with
thoughtful hosts.
We stayed there for several nights when we were sadly moving away from Eastland. We didn't know the Innkeepers before, but they went out of their way to help make things go smoothly. When they learned we'd have to leave at 4 in the morning to make a plane at DFW, the host got up before dawn and prepared a breakfast and sent us off with some snacks for the trip.
The price was reasonable, and I used some of their decorating ideas in my new home up in NC.

  • Liked — The charming antiques, the location, the friendliness of the hosts.
  • Disliked — Not handicap friendly.
