“First B&B experience was awesome”

I have never been to a B&B before. We were going to go to a club in dallas and I decided to check on places to stay nearby. I was stunned to find something directly behind the club!! Being skeptical, I decided to check the place out online. The ratings were all very positive, and they have a great website describing the whole experience.

One of the things I am spoiled by with past travel experiences is having 24 hour access to the location. That is not a problem here, but the manager/owner is not always on-site, so we had to call ahead to see if he could check us in later in the evening. Patrick was extremely accommodating. He gave us a great explanation of the property and how to get in and out. I was very impressed by his professionalism and friendliness.

We stayed in the Dickason room, which was small, but very nice and comfortable. People used to large suites might be disappointed, but I have stayed in some small rooms in Europe, and this was very similar. We enjoyed the room very much, and I expect all of the rooms are just as wonderful.

Our particular package was discounted, so the full breakfast was not part of the deal. Patrick mentioned that the breakfast was gourmet, but we are not really breakfast people and decided to just go with the continental breakfast. When we went downstairs in the morning, we were greeted by the most wonderful aroma. The chef was cooking an amazing breakfast for two travelers that also stayed the night. Our scones, coffee, and juice were wonderful, but I think I will elect to pay extra for the full breakfast. Not only did Michael serve wonderful food, but he was very knowledgeable about Dallas and a great conversationalist.

This was one of the best stays I have ever had. I highly recommend it!!

“Fantastic Friendly Find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

My husband and I had the distinct pleasure to spend two nights at the Daisy Polk Inn. We have stayed at numerous B&Bs throughout the world, and the Daisy Polk Inn is definitely in the upper tier of bed and breakfast establishments. Our wonderful adventure began when we entered the American Craftsman home (a style popular from 1900-1920 and is generally considered a descendant of the English Arts and Crafts movement. Most American Craftsman houses have the appearance of oversized bungalows, distinguished by excellent construction, with simple but handsome exteriors and interiors.). Patrick greeted us and gave us a quick tour of the beautiful home. He thinks that this home is the only remaining American Craftsman home in all of Dallas, making it a shame there are not more.
We stayed in Daisy Polk’s room. Daisy was a talented soprano, who spent most of her life in this 102 year old home. Patrick and Wayne have done a fantastic job recreating the time period when Daisy was in her prime as an opera singer. The furniture is very comfortable and beautifully represents the 1920s. Artwork from England adorns many of the home’s walls, accentuating the lovely rooms. Most of the time, traditional jazz or classical music makes for the perfect atmosphere to unwind. We took advantage of the relaxing room to drink our wine (Ask them about the fantastic wine shop just up the road on Oak Lawn Avenue!). When we were not relaxing in the living room, we were on the very deep front porch. The wicker furniture is very comfortable, and the plants that surrounded the porch made it a small perfect world to enjoy the nice weather.
One of the reasons we prefer B&Bs are the morning meals. Michael individually prepares everyone’s breakfasts. Unlike most bed and breakfasts, the Daisy Polk Inn gives its guests a choice as to what they want to eat. One fills out a pre-printed menu so that Michael can start early in the morning to have your gourmet breakfast at the time you want. Everything we ate was excellent! His family’s 120 year old biscuit recipe was perfect as Michael uses Irish butter instead of American. One can taste the difference! Michael’s cheese grits are to die for. He buys his local artisan cheese from a great cheese store up the road. Everyone we talked to loves his omelettes. My husband thought the cheese omelette was so good that he had it both mornings.
To top it all off, the Daisy Polk Inn is conveniently close to many restaurants and shops, in Uptown Dallas. Many of them can be reached on foot. The area is safe enough to do this and walking is better than trying to find a parking spot in an area where not many exist. And, if you want to catch a bus to downtown, the stop is a block away.
What a find this place is! Book yourself a great getaway and be part of those warm, friendly feelings that friends have for each other. The Daisy Polk Inn treats you like family, and we can’t wait to share our camaraderie with Wayne, Patrick and Michael again in the near future.

“A wonderful overnight experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Wayne and his partner went out of their way to make us feel as though we were guests in their personal home rather than simply clients staying in a B&B. They went out of their way to provide us with local knowledge in order to make our short visit memorable. The house was fabulous and very comfortable. Breakfast was a treat. Thanks guys!!

Room Tip: All rooms seemed to look nice.

“Overall great stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

The Daisy Polk Inn is a lovely B&B in a very interesting area of Dallas. We were welcomed by the chef who told us the fascinating story of the Inn. They were very flexible and allowed us to drop off our bags before leaving for the day. The inside is absolutely charming and very well done. The only complaint I have is that the breakfast was not at all what we expected. We chose a B&B, as opposed to a hotel, for the cozy feel and a nice breakfast. Given that our room was on special, only a continental breakfast was included in the price. We had the option of paying an extra $15 per person for a hot breakfast. We thought a continental breakfast would be sufficient, so we went with that option. However, all that was offered at breakfast was coffee, juice, and a scone, hardly enough for breakfast. Despite that, we had a wonderful stay and would certainly make another trip to the Daisy Polk Inn.

Room Tip: We loved the Reagan room!! Very spacious!

“SO THANKFUL FOR THE DAISY POLK INN!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

The Daisy Polk Inn is a gem of a bed and breakfast deserving of a 5 Star rating! After a lovely reception in the historic main house, we were shown to our room (the Julie Room) in the cottage next door. Our room was truly spectacular with beautiful antique furnishings and an amazing Jacuzzi tub. From this lovely B&B we were able to walk to restaurants, clubs, and shopping. The inn owner and inn keeper (Wayne and Patrick) treated us like family from the moment we arrived. The fresh homemade breakfast was delicious, and chatting with the other guests added to the welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Without a doubt, we will be returning to the Daisy Polk Inn! Thank you for an amazing weekend escape!

-Lowell and Peter

Room Tip: The Julie Room was fantastic!
