“Horrible Hotel and worse service”

A group of 30 of us stayed here January 26-30 2012. My toilet fluhed every 30 minutes and they didn't fix it. I sked for 3 days for blankets and when I got them one was wet and teh other dirty. Many of my fellow travels complained that the heat in their rooms didn't work and it was below 35 at night. They promised us they would open breakfast early for us on Sunday so that we could get to our event. They didn't bother to tell the staff though and it didnt open in time for us. The rooms are old the carpets stained and teh pictures they show are all lies. Bypass this for something else. They promised no longer than a 15 minutes wait for a shuttle to take you locally. I had to wait 45 minutes on Friday. On Sunday morning when they promised us shuttle service at 7 a.m. we had to wait because the shuttle driver was parking cars (that's what we were told)

Room Tip: Don't!

“Great location in great City!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Hotel Lawrence couldn't be more conveniently located. While Dallas is known all over the world, it's still got an 'intimate' feeling of a smaller town. The hotel, though a modern building, has got an established, solid feel inside which might remind one of a bygone era. We first encountered the friendly staff on check-in who greeted us with milk and delicious home-made cookies. While on the subject of the staff, we found each and every one of them to be first class. Needed a tripod for a night shot and Tony on the front desk obliged me by bringing in his own one so we could use it to get the picture. Then there was Chastity, who was only too happy to drive us anywhere we wanted. We certainly saw a lot of the city because of her and her shopping recommendations were great too. When we stayed here we were told there were free breakfasts. Didn't think it would be up to much but we were so wrong! Delicious food, everything from pancakes to bagels, juices, coffee to die for plus all the newspapers. If you are heading to Dallas, check out the Lawrence - a gem!

“Old hotel, slow elevator but great in many ways”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We enjoyed our three night stay on the 10th floor, very quiet, only one cold shower but then we were there for a conference with lots of women! Breakfast very nice, eggs, waffles, cottage cheese, bagels, cereal, coffee, juice, etc.

“The Closest Hotel To Dealey Plaza”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I was travelling to Dallas from Australia as I have had a very strong interest in the JFK assassination since I was in junior high school. Therefore, I selected the Hotel Lawrence because it seemed passable in terms of quality, and the location was the best one to start a day of looking at JFK assassination-related sites as it was virtually in Dealey Plaza.

I got a room that faced Dealey Plaza, so I woke to Dealey Plaza covered in light snowfall. I think given my reasons for going to Dallas, the view made the hotel worth the money, as I could see the former Texas School Book Depository, Elm St, and the Grassy Knoll from my window.

The room itself was not so modern - the bathroom looked newly-renovated, but the furniture & television looked a little archaic. However, I spent little time in the room, despite the cold, so for me it was fine.

The breakfast was a buffet, and a little limited. I usually turn to cereal when I can't get scrambled egg & toast, so it was cereal day for me, but that was fine as I was eager to get to Dealey Plaza anyway. The night I got there, the restaurant was closed, and it was about 10pm, but luckily someone in a room ordered a pizza, so the driver took me back to the pizzeria so I could order a pizza there.

I flew out after spending one full day in Dallas, and the trip from the HL to Dallas Love Field took around 30 minutes in the morning peak hour period.

While there might be better quality rooms in Dallas, I think many people book here because of the JFK experience, so if that is the case and you don't have to have five-star surroundings, this is the place to stay.

Room Tip: If you are there for the JFK experience, try to get a room facing Dealey Plaza. There are plenty of...

“Convenient but in need of an update”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

I stayed at the Hotel Lawrence for a conference. Since I'm a walker, it was within easy walking distance of the Convention Center. The DART station is also nearby. My room was small, and the colors and furniture style reminded me of the apartment I grew up in back in the '60s (avocado/Danish "modern"), but the bed was comfortable, and (like another reviewer) I could see the site of the Kennedy shooting out my window. The restaurant was very good--friendly waitstaff, tasty and reasonably priced food. The complimentary breakfast was just adequate: cereals, various pastries,a do-it-yourself waffle maker. There were juices (or juice products), but no orange juice; the coffee was lukewarm, and on one morning the carafe ran out and was not replaced speedily. There were periodic loud noises from what I'm guessing was the plumbing, which woke me up several times during the night. Worst of all, on a morning when I had several meetings coming up there was no hot water in the shower; the desk staff took care of it, but refused to give me any sort of refund for the inconvenience of not being able to shower properly on a day when I was concerned with making a good impression on quite a few people. With a serious update, the hotel has the potential to be pretty good.

Room Tip: There are photos of rooms at the check-in desk. They sure didn't look like mine. Ask for one o...
