I recently traveled with my family to the Springhill Suites in the West End area of Dallas.
Unfortunately, so did the Jr. High and High School Students from Guatemala. All 200+ of them. The night was filled with running up and down the halls, laughing & conversations in the halls, slamming of doors, you name it – think slumber party on multiple floors.
After many direct requests with the students and sponsors, I went downstairs and asked the night manager & guard to please get these kids under control. By this time it was 2:00am. The staff mentioned the hotel was chaotic the week before when the fans for the OU vs. Texas football game stayed there, so this was nothing new to them. Because it was such a large group, the students were on all floors of the hotel so there was no way to get away from the noise.
Fortunately, the kids checked out the next morning, and the second night was great. The thing that makes this hotel a great place to stay (central location/good price) can also be it’s biggest negative because large groups may be staying there – which is typical of the industry, but this is the first time I have experienced it in such a direct way.
The staff responded very well, comp’d my room and offered many freebies to make it right. I would stay there again, but only after finding out how many large groups were in the hotel and their demographics. Maybe more seasoned travelers already know to do this and now I do too!
