While on a trip from Houston to SW Colorado, we decided to stop the first night in Cisco due to the town's Conrad Hilton museum. We booked this hotel through AAA and they had it listed as a "Best Western". When we arrived, I asked the owner why the hotel was no longer a Best Western and he claimed it was because his motel has fewer than 60 rooms and that is why he lost his affiliation the previous year. Dunno. I've filed a complaint with AAA.
Here are a few things we found when we checked in:
Pool was out of order, caked feces on towels and toilet seat, sink and counter were not properly cleaned, bloodstains on pillows, dirty sheets on one bed, and filthy tub and shower curtain. The man who was previously working on the pool pump came and cleaned our room and changed the linens and towels after we filed a complaint with the owner.
The entire facility is filthy and in need of repair. With a toddler, we had to be extra diligent of the sheets of peeling paint coming off the exterior walls, cigarette butts, glass shards, and bottle caps littering the sidewalk and parking lot.
The complimentary "continental breakfast" consisted of slices of white bread, stale mini-doughnuts, stale large doughnuts, and some sort of multi-colored cereal. At least the coffee and milk were fresh.
Do yourself a favor and keep on going to Abilene or Fort Worth and stay at a reputable establishment. No wonder Conrad Hilton sold his hotel and left Cisco in 1925. He had the right idea.
