I recently stayed at the Guadalupe River Ranch. It was a weekend retreat I planned for my girlfriend's birthday with two other friends. After making the reservation, I read the reviews on this website. Immediately I started to panic. I searched around and found other places with similar activities (we were going there specifically for the horseback riding), but no where else had rooms available. When I found there were no alternatives, I had to choice but to continue with the plans at GGR, and I am glad that I did. The property is beautiful and well kept. Our room was clean, our bathroom was as well. As far as I know, we stayed in the only building with balconies, and there were absolutely no holes in the floor. There were bugs (hello? you are in the country), but no roaches. Our beds were clean, and the girls requested extra towels that were brought within 30 minutes. The horseback riding was very tame. I do not recommend this for someone who wants to actually ride. It is horseback riding on a trail at a very slow pace. It was very enjoyable, but nothing above a fast walk. The only truth I can find in the other reviews is that dinner was slow and there was ONE item that was unavailable. However, this is an extremely nice restuarant (our bill was $120 w/o apps. or salads). It takes time to prepare a delicious meal and the scenery is more than enough to keep you occupied. It seems to me that someone has a vendetta against this place and is posting unfounded defamation. I did not see the other rooms, but I can't imagine that they were much different than ours. I would excercise caution while reading other reviews. This was truly a memorable visit for all of us.

We planned a two-night getaway to the hill country for rest and relaxation. What we got was one-night away (because that's all we could take), disappointment and a much lighter wallet. This place has very little maintenance, no TV's in the rooms, not much to do, dirty floors, a shower that sprayed every direction but down, etc. etc. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY GOING HERE!!! The website looks nothing like the real thing. I wish I'd checked here first!!!

Lets see where to begin. I choose to try to see the bright side of things but.....
1. Balcony to our dirty room was missing five slats making it unsafe for my two children. The 7 and 3 year old could easily fit through. Didn't make me feel confident about the rest of the balcony. I informed staff they smiled and said they would get to it. Didn't while I was there.
2. Restaurant was out of menu items everytime we ate there.
3. You can get a fridge in the room but have to know to ask. I asked twice, both times being assured I would get one. Never got one.
4. Also have to ask for housekeeping.
5. Petting zoo is only open for a short time, 10 minutes or so, in the morning. Animal lovers will have a problem with the petting zoo as the animals are penned up all day.
6. There is no ice cream parlor at the general store. The general store has very little of the neccesities. Plan on going into Boerne if you forget something or someone gets sick. Only junk food offerings.

I think for the money there are lots of better options. Horse rides were good but we have had better. Wranglers don't tell stories just lead quietly. After an hour my 7 year old almost fell asleep atop his horse. They do have two star deer that will eat grahm crackers and let you pet them. That was fun. If you want a ranch stay keep looking.

I am also of the party of 5 girls that recently stayed at the GRR for a weekend get-away. I made the reservations there because I had stayed there once before and stayed in one of the "rooms" in a "building" on property for just one night and it was an "alright" experience. Nothing horrid or terrible but just OK. I booked the Annex House which was next to the Reunion House and at no time was I ever told that it was a double wide trailer with basically nothing in it. I was expecting some sort of cozy, comfy "house" that we could comfortably hang out in and enjoy each other's company. The previous review was incorrect in that it was not the Reunion House, but the Annex House that was a double-wide trailer that was filthy and lacking in almost everything you would want when you are away from home. I will let the previous review speak for me as she did a great job in giving more details but I was extremely disappointed in what we got for our money. We made the best of it and had a great time in Boerne, shopping and eating, but if I had to do it again I would stay somewhere else. I wish I had known about Trip Advisor before I made the reservations but only learned about it after the fact. I would have canceled based on what I have read here and most of what has been said is true about the rooms and service. Now, the restaurant and main house are lovely and we did have a nice meal there and sat out on the back patio and had a great time but then took the long, dark, lonely walk back to the double-wide trailer. But I can tell you I have never laughed so much in my life listening to all the hoopla that resulted from our "lodging"!! Stay somewhere else... wish we had!!

Five friends and myself had booked a weekend retreat at the GRR and decided to try the Reunion house since it accomadated a large party. We arrived to find that our accomodation was a "double wide" trailer and nasty interior! it was a shock. we were stayign 2 nights and made the best of it...but here were some of the problems we encountered:
1. Dirty carpets and bathrooms
2. Sinks in the bathroom had chunks of something gross in it like food or vomit
2. Mismatched linen...it looked like stuff had been bought in a yard sale and thrown together...not one sheet or pillow matched
3. There was old coffee and grounds still in the coffee pot from the previous residents.
4. There was poor lighting and what there was did not work very well so hard to read
5. The was bright green carpeting on the floor that looked very dirty and the rooms smelled of mold. carpeting extended into the bathroom and looked very ugly and dirty
6. NO tv, nothing and phones did not work well
7. There was no trash pickup or housekeepign for the two days we stayed at this lovely place

When we took it up with management we were brought a small dorm room style tv and a mickey mouse boom box to help us with boredom. The management seemed very young and did not seem to care overall abotu quality. we did not try any of the other recreational opportunities available..preferrign to spend our time in Boerne instead.

All in all this place is a huge disappointment...this is NOT a resort...maybe motel 6 type resort! and it is clearly a huge misadvertising on the part of the resort to not mention that the reunion house is a skanky double wide with cheesy fittings and poor quality overall. If you are the kind of person who requires clean surroundings, forget 5 star, this is NOT the place for you! Very very disappointed and will not recommend this place to anyone.
