“Love and family”

The wedding of my dreams was at the Guadalupe River Ranch overlooking the Hill Country.
Family and Friends all came together and had a marvelous time. The accommodations and meeting room for the reception were perfect. We look forward to having more reunions of this kind there in the future. It is a great place for events and getting away from the hustle of the city. Peace and tranquility.

“Very Nice Place”

I stayed at the GRR with my boyfriend at the time. We had a very quaint cabin with a wooded creek view (although the creek was dry - they hadn't had any rain in months). The room had stone tiled floor and a very comfortable bed.

The Pros:
The bed was comfy
The location was perfect
The ambiance
The deer that eat out of your hand
The Peace Pole
The Hiking
The River is accessible from resort
They give you stuff to make S'mores each night you're there by the campfire
The restaurant had excellent food
The spa was super-duper nice
The massage was relaxing
Just miles from "The Cave with No Name" - worth the trip
Very quiet and serene
While tubing we were the only ones for a long time - it was so peaceful

The Cons:

Having to walk up 18,000 stairs to get from the river back up to the resort, which isn't so bad but you're exhausted from 3 hours of tubing and still have to carry your cooler up with you.

The guy teaching the yoga class didn't know we were coming, we got there and he was ironing his shirt - I had anticipated a real Yoga class, nonetheless we compromised and had a 30 minute class with him

(having nothing to do with the resort) - The water level was so low that our rear ends were constantly bumping the bottom of the river - it was probably not a good time to tube - it was still peaceful and mother earth was beautiful in her natural state

I'd stay again in a heartbeat!

  • Liked — The Ambiance
  • Disliked — The walk from the river to the resort after tubing

“Rustic, Peaceful, With Amazing Views of the Hill Country!”

We arrived to the Hill Country on Friday and left on Sunday. My children cried when we left. I think that sums it all up. The Guadalupe River Ranch is a wonderful place to go to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I was scared to tell you the truth when I made my reservations they told me there were no televisions in the rooms. But this was the best time I have had with my children. No video games, t.v. was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. There was so much to do from the horseback riding to the hayride and campfire at night with marshmallows. They have deer that will come up to you and eat out of your hands. If I would have to have a negative comment on the weekend it would just have to be that it was over too fast. Just remember if you are going, that it is rustic, and in the country. You are not going to a four star hotel, you are going to a ranch and the staff there tries to ensure you have a good time.

“What's not to like?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2006

I recently stayed at the Guadalupe River Ranch. It was a weekend retreat I planned for my girlfriend's birthday with two other friends. After making the reservation, I read the reviews on this website. Immediately I started to panic. I searched around and found other places with similar activities (we were going there specifically for the horseback riding), but no where else had rooms available. When I found there were no alternatives, I had to choice but to continue with the plans at GGR, and I am glad that I did. The property is beautiful and well kept. Our room was clean, our bathroom was as well. As far as I know, we stayed in the only building with balconies, and there were absolutely no holes in the floor. There were bugs (hello? you are in the country), but no roaches. Our beds were clean, and the girls requested extra towels that were brought within 30 minutes. The horseback riding was very tame. I do not recommend this for someone who wants to actually ride. It is horseback riding on a trail at a very slow pace. It was very enjoyable, but nothing above a fast walk. The only truth I can find in the other reviews is that dinner was slow and there was ONE item that was unavailable. However, this is an extremely nice restuarant (our bill was $120 w/o apps. or salads). It takes time to prepare a delicious meal and the scenery is more than enough to keep you occupied. It seems to me that someone has a vendetta against this place and is posting unfounded defamation. I did not see the other rooms, but I can't imagine that they were much different than ours. I would excercise caution while reading other reviews. This was truly a memorable visit for all of us.
