I booked this room through priceline at a reasonable price (~$58 including taxes and fees). The amenities listed on priceline for this hotel include both a king bed and 2 Queen beds. It is understood that your room type is not guaranteed through priceline, but I have never had a problem getting a double-double or double-queen in over a dozen bookings.
When I arrived and attempted to secure my room in the Hotel, I was informed that my reservation was for a king room, and changing it would yield an additional charge of $30. A check of the hotel’s own website indicates only a $5 difference in the reservation cost of the rooms. The hotel appeared at about 10% of capacity, so there wasn’t a space issue.
The clerk told me that all she could do was check with management, so I asked her to do so and get back to me. I was never contacted by the desk clerk regarding this matter. Later that evening, I encountered another woman working the desk, and I asked if she had been passed along any information regarding my request. She simply said she never heard anything so it must not have been approved.
I asked about the free evening social(including snacks and beverages) which was advertised on Best Western’s site for this location from Monday-Thursday (the stay was on a Wednesday night) and was informed “Oh we’re not doing that today”.
With the lack of responsiveness of the staff and lack of delivery on advertised amenities, I returned to my room facing a noisy construction site, and resolved to actually write a review when I got back home. Writing a review is a rare occurrence for me as I am rarely aggravated or impressed enough with a product or service to take the time to do this.
I would not book a return stay at this hotel, and suggest you do not chose this hotel if you are considering it.
First, the good things:
The rooms were very nice, with comfortable beds, microwaves, and larger-than-average in-room refrigerators. It was pretty quiet, and the doors had some kind of mechanism that made them close very slowly, which keeps them from slamming, but the lock is still pretty loud. I guess that's progress, though. The breakfast was very nice: coffee, juice, cereal, bread/pastries, eggs, sausage or bacon, biscuits, gravy, and waffles.
The bad:
The service was really mixed. Madison, whom I dealt with by phone prior to arrival, was terrible. She was rude and not helpful at all. Jessica, who was there at night, was very nice. Monique was working while I was eating breakfast one morning, and she seemed determined that everyone she encountered should hate life as much as she does. A lady asked her for more coffee creamer, and Monique responded by rolling her eyes and walking away. She did bring the creamer, though. Misty, the following morning, was all smiles. The housekeeper I encountered in the hall had a similarly sunny personality. If everyone had been friendly and focused on customer service, I would have given it 5 dots. But with some of them being borderline hostile, I left with a less than stellar impression, which is a shame.
I had to stay in Bastrop for a family event. Booked for $53 on priceline. I didn't expect much, boy, I was surprised!! New looking property, I was very surprised it is a few years old. A couple of restaurants within walking distance. I dealt with the evening shift staff, they were very nice and helpful. I was surprised to find the breakfast very good in the morning. The only thing negative was the front desk lady also was cooking breakfast. Now, it may have been an isolated event, but some folks waited on food or hung up on trying to call.
Overall and excellent experience! I would be back in a minute and stay at this well run property without hesitation!
The first impression upon driving up to the Best Western Pines Inn is of a new hotel. The hotel was built in Sept. of 2009 but the newness stops there. The bad experience started out with the appearance and lack of enthusiasm of the front desk. I did not find one single person working there who smiled even after my attempts to smile at them first. I noticed upon my arrival that there was major construction of a future Toyota dealership going up right next door. I specifically asked the reception for a room that did not face the construction. She told me no problem because all single bed or king rooms did not face in that direction. Sure enough I get to the room and it is eye level with construction right up to the property. The room was of small standard size. It did have a fridge and microwave. The decor was dark and the lighting poor. I had a business appointment so decided not to try and get the room changed but did let the clerk know that she was very wrong on the room locations. I would think they should be a little more familiar with a property that they work for. The clerk just said, "Oh really?". Next morning the heavy equipment and construction crew started up at 6:00 am. No chance of sleeping in so got up to take my shower and head to breakfast. Wow what a disappointment that was. The shower had absolutely no water pressure at all. There was a trickle that came out and you could barely get soap washed of little less try and wash your hair. I did not eat breakfast because it was so bad looking. There was no coffee and I could not find a clerk any where. The breakfast room was full of kids running around making food for themselves with no adult supervision to be seen. There are a number of displaced families living there due to the large fire in Bastrop. I understand that but please where are the parents? I will never stay at this Best Western again. I have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Suites in Bastrop. Granted the Best Western was only $89 but I will gladly pay the extra $30 for a different location.
