The Pecan Street Inn is a delightful small-town getaway in Bastrop, the second-oldest incorporated city in Texas. Innkeepers Shawn & Bill Pletsch, who raised their children in this old house, currently live off-site, but their hospitality is second to none. They will be as helpful as you wish them to be, without being intrusive. They made everything just right for our anniversary. Bill's breakfasts, which include such delicacies as pecan waffles and pecan French toast, are superb. Further hospitality is provided by Lou, a friendly feline who, although not allowed inside the inn, welcomes guests on either porch. The bed was remarkably comfy -- even to my hubby, who is particular about mattresses. We plan to return!
Other reasons to choose Bastrop for a getaway include the following: Sherwood Forest Faire, a nearby Renaissance festival, runs from mid-February through early April; birders and nature enthusiasts will enjoy nearby state parks and nature preserves (McKinney Roughs Nature Park, Bastrop State Park, Buescher State Park); history buffs will enjoy the historic nature of the city; antiquers and gift-shoppers will be pleased by the array of shops within walking distance.
Restaurant recommendations: Hula Hoops has friendly service, quirky decor, and tasty malt-shop-style fare. Hasler Bros. Steakhouse provides a classy, upscale dining experience, even for a non-carnivore such as I.
Room Tip: Recommend Master Suite: decor, comfort, value.
