Was a pleasant place to stay. They were very helpful infinding things to do and eat. Recommended Black Bear Cafe. They were small and casual but food very good and everyone was pleasant. Price was reasonable.
Stayed here in April for my granddaughter's wedding at Cades Cove and it was very nice.Everyone was helpful. The room was clean. The bed and pillow's were very comfortable.
And I love nice pillows.Could use thicker towels.
Maybe you will have better luck than we did. We usually stay at Best Westerns, and were glad to see online that this one was just renovated. In fact, just last month, and we got a special "Grand Re-opening Special" rate which was very fair. We had just stayed in another Best Western in Winchester, TN, less than 2 weeks ago, so comparisons were inevitable. Unfortunately, the Townsend BW came out the loser in all areas. While most furnishings appeared to be new, colors were very drab, and the carpet seemed worn. We noticed where corners were cut in many areas with fit and finish. We picked a room with one king bed rather than 2 queens, since online the king room was described as having a sofa, while the 2 queen room did not. On check in we mentioned this to the clerk and she rather rudely said "There is no sofa in our king rooms". When I told her it definitely said there was during our online booking, she check her information and was surprised to see that her info also said there was a sofa in the room. But we later learned that there was no sofa. But we didn't learn this immediately since we couldn't access the room with the provided key cards. After a long walk around to the office, the same clerk, who had been unhappy with us since the beginning as we had checked in earlier than she would have liked, begrudgingly made us 2 more cards. We went back to the room and after repeated attempts finally got one card to work. We had friends who had taken a room 2 doors down from us, and when they arrived shortly after we did, we greeted them in front of their room and found that their keys didn't work either. Just for kicks, I tried my new key card and surprise, it also opened their room. They went back to the desk clerk and got 2 more key cards. When they returned, the new cards opened their room, but also opened ours. So we could both open both rooms. Naturally, this make me wonder if our cards would work on other rooms and maybe their cards would open ours, but we didn't explore this potential problem. We went out to dinner with our friends, and on returning, found that our key cards wouldn't work again. Another trip to the office, with more new cards, and an employee coming with us to make sure they would work. They did. Later we learned that the new flat screen TV had a universal remote (exactly the same TV and remote as the Winchester BW) and it did not allow settings on the TV to be accessed. The aspect ratio on the TV was incorrectly set, so we had to watch all shows with the people appearing short and fat, with black bars at the top and bottom of all channels. This could be easily corrected, but apparently all the rooms have the same remote which could not do so. Our friends had the same problem. The next morning our friends went to breakfast with us, and on returning, we found they they couldn't get into their room with their key card. They went to the office and learned that when the employee make their new cards the night before, she only made them good for one day, therefore they would not work the next morning.....very strange, but it meant another trip to the office for them to get into their rooms.
Now for the breakfast......this was the first time any of us had ever visited a motel offering the complimentary breakfast, and there was no microwave available. Nice cinnamon rolls and butter, but no way to heat them and melt the butter. Also, no bananas or other fruit suitable for putting on cereal (no oranges either, only apples). Biscuits and gravy, but no sausage patties for the biscuits as had been available in Winchester (where there were also apples and bananas). No Belgian waffles as in Winchester, but there was an interesting pancake 'machine' which no one seemed willing to try. The juice machine dispensed room temperature juices, but the coffee was hot and excellent !
Sleeping had been difficult since the new climate control units were the type that turned completely off when not heating or cooling, therefore going from quite to loud each time during the night. The other type which runs constantly with the compressor cycling on and off are much more conducive to uninterrupted sleep. The beds were a little too hard, but acceptable. Blanket was not "double sheeted" as we have found them to be in most other motels recently. Skimpy supply of soap, one very small bar for the vanity and one slightly larger bar in the bath. So in the bathroom you had to take the bar from the shower to the sink depending on which you were using. I will say, though, that the room was clean, but we may have been among the very first to use it after remodeling.....the tub looked brand new. One thing, though, we found a number of spiders in the room.....no other types of bugs, but quite a few spiders.
All and all, a much less pleasant experience than we have had with many other Best Westerns in recent years. Not the worst, but definitely not the best, either.
$71 nt. It's a basic motel. We were on the 1st floor. Convenient to be able to park in front of our room and unload hiking gear, coolers, etc. Motel is pretty new. Rooms were clean and still smelled new. Decor was neutral / ok. We enjoyed the rocking chairs outside of the rooms. Beds were comfortable except for the sheets. Sheets and towels were low quality / rough. Our bathtub filled with water during showers. Water pressure was good. Breakfast was free / satisfactory but started a little late ... 7:00am. I like cereal, milk, juice, and coffee in the morning. The desk clerk is overworked. She had to tend to check-outs and handle the breakfast area. Overall, the motel was a good choice. It was convenient for our Smoky Mountains / Cades Cove visit.
