Contrary to lots of other reviews of this property that might lead you to believe this is a pretty awesome place - it isn't. This is a real review by a real person who stayed at the Highland Manor Nov 2011. It's a family owned hotel. Rooms are dated. I'm trying to figure out what all the fuss is in the other reviews. Or what is it about the views people remark about? The views across the highway at the tourist souvenir shop? No views we could view that made us say WOW!!!! It's OK. Fairly clean. Nothing at all remarkable. Gatlinburg has many many much nicer places to stay, but Townsend is more isolated and less crowded, and it's only a few miles from entrance to Smoky Mountains National Park and about 11 miles from Cades Cove. Honestly nothing stood out as great or awful. We tried to call office Sunday morning but no one works in office Sunday morning. We wanted to arrange a late check out. Oh well. It's a budget hotel that's all. Expect a clean room and lots of hot water and close to mountains. Don't expect a luxury suite.

First of all, Highland Manor is a well kept property. The grounds were immaculate, the staff very friendly and helpful, and the location is perfect for exploring Cades Cove, Foothills Pkwy., etc. Our room was clean and spacious but the decor was just a little dated. We had requested and received a king sized bed but it had no head board which made sitting up and reading difficult. Not sure why there wasn't a head board. The room was clean but we both detected a slight "funky odor" which we chalked up to age.

We would most likely stay here again because my experience has been that in any given hotel one room may appear better or worse than an identical room right next door. It's obvious that the owners have gone to great pains to make the property as nice as any in the area. We were there for a one night stay.

The hotel was very clean and it just "felt right". We had a peaceful, comfortable stay and would definitely recommend it to friends. We were able to receive a discount rate using one of the motel coupon books picked up at a rest area. It doesn't have its own restaurant but it does provide a good continental breakfast.

Townsend is a very clean, quiet, and serene city. This Inn sits 100 yards back from the highway and is very quiet. Our room #229 was at the end of the building...the best location as you shared a wall with only one room. Because of the construction, all rooms are approachable directly from your parking spot in front of your room...no stairs to negotiate. Our room had a balcony, microwave, and frig.

The breakfast was ok and crowded in the morning as there is little space next to the check-in counter.

If you plan on going to Cades Cove, leave hotel at 8 am and get a sandwich at Subway across the street for a picnic. Cades Cove is about 20 minutes away and gets very crowded quickly in the morning.
