We chose to stay here based on other relatively positive reviews here. However, our experience was less than delightful.
First of all, the place is located in what I would politely term an unsavory part of town. The giant bail bonds and exotic dancer billboards right next door were the first clue. Across the street is another older and somewhat scary-looking motel that looks like it might rent rooms by the hour.
We arrived at night so perhaps the neighborhood seems less ominous in the daylight. However, our room (not a "suite" by any stretch of the imagination) was a sadly-neglected state of affairs. The first thing that blew me away was that the desk clerk made us sign several papers promising that we would not smoke in the room upon penalty of some enormous fines, yet the proudly emblazoned "Nonsmoking"-plaqued room we were assigned positively reeked of cigarette smoke. The walls were yellowed from old smoke and the whole place had that nasty smell that you can never completely erase after smoking has occurred there over a long time. Even the sheets smelled of smoke.
We tried but could not get the Internet to work in the room. We did not have the problem at other places this trip so something was haywire in our room I guess.
Most disturbing were some large stains on the bathroom walls (coffee? blood? urine?) that defied explanation. I'm sure these are not standard issue in every room but it caused me to pass on the shower.
The place was relatively busy though and parking was scant, so what perturbs me most of all is the possibility that this is Shelbyville's finest offering.

Let me begin by apologizing for not meeting your expectations here at the Best Western Celebration Inn & Suites. I do want you to know that I have taken your comments to heart, and since my Tenure as General manager began on April 1, 2009, I have made numerous efforts to correct the areas that you had mentioned.
I have contacted the City of Shelbyville with regards to the billboard in question, and have been told by them that the sign meets all of the City Codes, and there is nothing that they can do about it.
Again, i do hope that you accept my sincerest apology and do hope that you will give the Best Western Celebration Inn & Suites another chance in the future.
Sincerely,
R. Thompson
General Manager
