Always checking with TA before booking, this seemed like a good choice for a 5 day stay. However, having stayed at 100's of Hampton Inns, this is not the Best Ever (as stated in another review) when taking into consideration all aspects of a visit. It is difficult to write a negative review about a property but honesty has to win out in this case.
Staff: When arriving at a property and seeing someone at the front desk in a shirt that looked like it was slept in and not ironed was not a good first impression. And, this was generally the case each day. No dress code here. (Saw this situation discussed in another review also.) However, overall during my stay, the entire staff was friendly and always helpful. So, one overlooks some things.
This is in old motel. The hallways have been re-carpeted, painted and updated. The rooms have on a "new dress", so to speak but the renovation did not go far enough in my estimation to really bring it up to date. However, it was certainly comfortable enough with good beds and bedding which is key for a stay.
My biggest complaint was the smell of smoke in the room I had. It was major which meant that the room had not been thoroughly renovated nor cleaned for this problem (I could use the word "reak"). When complaining, they were very concerned and helpful as if they had no idea what I was talking about. Go figure - I assumed they smoked and then it is difficult to notice this problem. When the gal grabbed a spray can of deodorant, I knew that no matter how they sprayed, it would stink.
So, why did I stay? I was tired, I had unpacked, I hate to complain. They did attempt to move me but I assumed in a property this old that this is not a problem in one room. It isn't like someone smoked in the last stay it is an old smokey smell that non-smokers all understand.
I will state that the rooms, hallways, breakfast area were all very cleaned and tidied - this was not a problem in any way. Just the rank smell. I even left a tip for Linda, who cleaned my room.
This is a hard thing to say but I would not choose this property again because of the smell, if I had a choice. It was in a good location for my purposes, the town was overrun with tourists and so I stuck it out using two large candles in the room at all times to calm the smell somewhat.
So, not the worst property but certainly not the Best Ever either. You decide if it works for you.
Room Tip: If you must stay here and you don't like the smoky smell ask to see your room first.
