“Scratch And Sniff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2010

We are a pretty tolerant couple but our first impression, even before checking out our room, was not good. A cadillac with four flat tires was parked in front that had, obviously, not moved in weeks, or months. The room had an acrid smell which was overpowered with some kind of room refreshener which nearly choked me. The bathroom had not been well maintained (cracked tilework around the tub and poorly repaired). We asked to see a second room and it was the same; same odor, same disrepair but the car parked out front (on the opposite side of the walk-up) was a little better. It had three good windows and one made of duct tape. We did not check in and, instead, stayed at the Hampton Inn next door. The extra $20 per night was well worth it.

“Rough Around the Edges, but Safe and Cheap”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2008

My group and I were staying here on business. We had originally booked a room at the super 8 down the street, but that place seemed very sketchy. The Days Inn treated us well. They gave us a good rate and the internet was reliable and fast. The rooms have not been renovated in a while and weren't the cleanest, but I they didn't seem unsanitary or unsafe. A fridge and microwave were in each room as well as a 1 cup coffee maker and hair dryer. The free breakfast was your standard cereal/ bagel fare. The motel is very close to restaurants, the mall, and gas stations. I'd recommend this motel to people who just need a place to hang their hat.

“Very Dirty. Very Poor. Very Sad.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2007

This Thanksgiving, my family drove to Oak Ridge to spend time with in-laws. We had a difficult time with finding a property that fit our budget. My sister suggested another property about 12 miles away. I finally found this Days Inn, in town, for the same price.

Since about the 90’s, I’ve been quite disappointed with Days Inn. They have not been quite up to the standard that I have set for myself to be considered comfortable. But if they are so bad, then they would be out of business, right? With my personal greed of accumulating Amtrak points through a partnership program, I went ahead and booked the Days Inn of Oak Ridge.

We checked in around 5 PM and noticed that the beds seemed awkward. One was leaning a bit. Upon inspection, the bed was being held up with a brick. That gave me the impression of sugar packets stabilizing your dinner table at a decent restaurant. Ugh. The other bed caved in the center – so bad that my wife and I couldn’t share a bed or else we would both gravitate towards the center.

Other issues: Silly string on walls and ceiling; unidentifiable gross-ness on sides of box of springs; No ice bucket liner; No trash liner; minimally hot water.

On the morning after the 2nd night, I decided to take a bath. Got a call from the front desk asking to be sure that our shower curtain was inside the tub – water was leaking into the room below! Turns out it was probably leaking from under the tub through the overflow drain that may not have been hooked up to anything. They said they would send maintenance up after we checked out to look at it. Maintenance showed up 5 minutes later, trying to get into our room.

I’m sure we could have changed rooms, but the hassle of moving with the kids would have been a monumental task. Frankly, I don’t think they had a nicer room. If I hadn’t already made my non-refundable payment, I most definitely would have been glad to pay $20 more for another property in town – or paid the same for a real refurbished room 12 miles away.

On the plus side, the refrigerator, coffee maker and TV worked flawlessly. Perhaps the best thing about this Days Inn was that my wife no longer complains about our bed in our RV!

“If that was the renovated room, I'd hate to see the "before"”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2007

The hotel was completely booked yet there was no extra staff to get us through check in. Although they were polite and vaguely apologetic, it took almost 30 min to get a key. It took others even longer since my key actually worked the first time.
Friends also got other rooms called "no smoking" and it apparently meant no one had smoked in there in the last 20 minutes. Some had to go to other hotels to the smell. My room was also non-smoking but still came with ashtrays, burn marks on the furniture and an odor I could not define, but it was tolerable.
I was told on the phone when booking that the place had just been renovated but in my room wallpaper was peeling, tiles were missing in the bathroom, celiing tiles had assorted curious stains and I worried the showerhead was going to come off the wall at any moment.
The breakfast never contained the promised fresh fruit and half the time the OJ machine was broken. Plenty of carbs and sugar though.
To top it off, when I got home and unpacked, I found I was missing a new, still in the bag, ring and bracelet. Calls to the front desk to check my room to see if I'd left them on the vanity went unreturned. I suppose I could chalk it up to misplacing the jewerly but I later found out that a friend who stayed in another room unpacked and discovered she was missing 2 brand new shirts. Same no reply from front desk. Hmmmmm. We are both well traveled and know how to do a room check before we check out....kinda makes you wonder

  • Liked — it was cheap
  • Disliked — it smelled bad and things disappeared from my room
