My husband and I went to Gatlinburg 34 years ago for our honeymoon. As a young teacher and bank teller that was all we could afford. We love the area and have taken our family back many times; using motels, tent camping in Cades Cove, and staying in cabins later in life.
I never considered a B & B because of the expense. When I saw the Groupon, I thought, let's try this for our 34th anniversary. I know we chose a slow week, both at the Inn and in town also, and that was fine by me!
I wish we could have stayed longer. The Papaws Suite was fabulous although we were not on the mountain side, we saw plenty of the mountains. The weather wasn't good (but we weren't tent camping in 18 hours of rain so I wasn't complaining, some things are just what they are). I loved the laid back attitude of the staff and meeting the owner right there. The food was great, we talked a little about history, and I talked to the staff while they were finishing off decorating for the coming weekend, when things would pick up.
The most interesting part of our trip was the last night when we were ALL ALONE in the inn. Marston went down to his house and there was no staff there and no other occupants. That was an odd feeling, listening to the "sounds" of the house. My husband went downstairs to check on one sound and found it was the freezer, sounds just like we have at home!
I am a social being, but for this time, I liked the quiet and aloneness, yet if we asked a question, the staff engaged with us. We enjoyed them very much. I also appreciated being trusted with being there on their property while they were all gone.
