“TRULY EXCEPTIONAL. Historic yet good”
First, this is MARRIOTT, not Wyndham. Switch happened sometime in late 2011.
This is one of the rarest of hotels -- historic, yet fabulous. We'll likely stay here during future visits to Nashville.
Two dings, then the rest of the review is glowing. First, if hotels are going to put in tamper proof alarm clocks, they need to make sure the time is set correctly. I understand why it's good to keep guests from playing with the clocks, but ours was 15 minutes fast (this happens so much now that I carry a travel alarm clock with me). And, second, what's with paper cups for coffee service in 5 star hotels? They have a quality one cup coffee maker, Wolfgang Puck coffee, and cheap paper cups.
Historic. It's a great building. Fabulously restored. Beautiful open spaces. Truly like walking back into history. And, it's "old pretty", not just "old".
But, more importantly to me -- because I am unwilling to give up modern conveniences for looking at pretty old things -- it's a modern hotel. Elevators work. Bed is big and comfortable. Shower works (though hot water takes a LONG time to get flowing). WiFi works (and it's not free unless, strangely enough, you're a Wyndham by request member) well.
It's a small hotel. Some of the rooms have obstructed views.

They checked us in way early, moving our room (from one with a great view to one with an obstructed view, which was fine with us, and which they told us would have to happen if we wanted a room immediately). Everyone was polite and courteous. Seemed genuinely happy to see us. AND, they read and acted upon the preferences in our profile (this doesn't happen often).
A bargain as a Class 5 Marriott Rewards hotel. Not cheap otherwise. And, there's $12 internet and $25 valet parking. But, all of these fees are clearly posted on their website, and stays at fabulous hotels don't come cheap.
Truly exceptional.
Room Tip: First and second floors are going to be below street level and may well have obstructed views (ours...
