“Other reviewers must have not been on the 1st floor!”

My husband and I stayed one nite for New Year's Eve. We have always wanted to stay here and decided NYE would be a great time to try it. I made the reservation early on December 5th on the Wyndham website for a king-sized bed guestroom. The price of the room was $329. I had looked on TripAdvisor at other reviewer's gorgeous pictures of their rooms so I was optimistic we would have a wonderful experience.

We arrived early at 1 PM and were told our room would not be ready until 3, which was fine. We valeted the car and came back at 3 and were given a room on the 1st floor-room 112 to be exact. When we got to the room I couldn't believe how tiny it was after how large other rooms were in pictures. We did get the king sized bed, but there wasn't much room for anything else. After looking at the fire escape plan I'm pretty sure we had one of the smallest rooms on the floor. Not only was the room tiny, I quickly realized I could hear everything the couple in the room next to us were saying. I could even hear a voicemail message they were playing on speaker phone! Our view wasn't even of the tracks like others posted, it was of some dirt and a fence blocking the tracks. The bathroom was very nice, but when we took showers the floor would get flooded. I found the room to be very clean, but at one point we did kill a roach! EWW! I brushed it off as just a one time thing but still, not pleasant. The best part of the room was the bed-it was heavenly. But I could barely enjoy it because of how paper thin the walls were! I had to keep turning on the AC so it would drown out the noisy neighbors and people passing in the hall. I finally just got up the next morning because I couldn't take it anymore.

Also check-out time was noon which I thought was generous. But housekeeping came to our room THREE times before 10:30 and kept keying in! My husband had gone in and out of the room so the deadbolt and chain were undone. So when they keyed in nothing stopped them from seeing me naked except me running behind the wall. After the second time my husband locked and bolted the door. We had to keep asking them to come back. You'd think they would know who was still there and who wasn't.

I definitely don't believe our room was worth what we paid for it. Had we received a room like others posted about I'm sure my experience could have been better. The hotel was beautiful and in a great location, but we will not be staying here again.

Room Tip: Don't stay below 3rd floor!

“Gorgeous”

We stayed here for a weekend while visiting Nashville. Our room was beautiful - extrememly high ceilings. The lobby has kept all the charm of the original train station. If we have one complaint it is the over zealous valets. If you would like to park your own car, bypass the entrance and continue past the Flying Saucer Pub/Restaurant and turn right and self park. However, if you are going in and out each day it is cheaper to deal with the valets...depending on your tipping. Valet parks your car in the same parking lot as self-park.
If you don't want the noise of the trains request that when you make a reservation. We enjoyed watching the trains and didn't mind the noise...even at night.
The hotel is right on Broadway and you can walk to the Honkey Tonks. We felt safe doing this.

Room Tip: Request a quieter room that doesn't look over the train tracks if you don't like the noise.

“Classy, quiet, historic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

Stayed over the Christmas weekend, rooms were unique and extremely clean. Beautiful lobby and historic architecture. Staff is more friendly than they are knowledgeable of the area, so feel free to chit chat but do your research. In house restaurant and bar are cozy and enjoyable.

“The beauty goes beyond the surface...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

Several times, I've stayed at the Union Station Hotel in downtown Nashville, because it's walking distance from many great places, including Virago (one of my favorite restaurants), and because of the architecture and design that the building offers. It truly is a majestic place. Over the years, I've had friends get married in the enormous lobby, and I was even in a bridal fashion show there, once. The hotel was remodeled several years ago, and now offers the combination of historic character and modern fixtures in the rooms.

The most recent stay was a bit disappointing, because I didn't realize that the bottom floor (where we were accomodated), didn't have high ceilings, like other floors... and had a view of a backhoe that was being stored on the side of the building... along with what seemed like a smaller room, and a rattling air conditioner that was locked in a closet, so that I couldn't get to it in order to secure the noisy metal plate. The combination of these things was almost comical... but that's not the whole story...

When Wyndham emailed me a chance to review my stay, I was honest with them. Within 24 hours, both the Administrative Assistant and the Manager had emailed me to apologize, and they refunded half of my money, unexpectedly. The moral of this story is that sometimes, when a company handles a problem, it provides them an opportunity to show a customer what they're made of. In this case, I was impressed with their response, and since they are only providing hotel accomodations... not saving lives... I'll definitely stay there again. Relationship saved!

Tips...

Ask for a room that's not on the bottom floor.

They will record your preferences in their computer, if you let them be known. This way, your future stays will eliminate previous issues.

Visit the cozy bar and enjoy the portrait of Jack Nicholson. The bar has nice ambience, and is cozy and perfect for quiet conversations. The drinks are a bit expensive, but hey... live a little! (And tip well!)

All of my other stays deserve a rating of 5. And, I will probably amend this review after I've stayed there again... expecting that future stays will be as wonderful as the first few.

Room Tip: Ask for a room above the first floor.

“Wonderful Historical Hotel”

I stayed at Union Station for two nights and had a wonderful stay. The rooms are spacious with 20 ft ceilings, we stayed on the 5th floor. My room had a view of the lobby which was beautiful and relaxing. The bathroom was great too and had a deep soaking tub. My daughter forgot to bring her charger for her Ipod. When she inquired where the nearest store was to purchase one, the guys at the front desk loaned her one! Everyone makes you feel welcome and there is much to do within walking distance. I would love to have the opportunity to stay at Union Station again!
