“Terrible is a high rating for this place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I stayed at this hotel for a family reunion last year. It was the worst experience I have had a hotel. Over the course my 3 day stay, they had to change my room 4 times. First there was water damage in our room. Changed room had less damage but still had a mild mildew odor. Most of my family members had to switch rooms. Hotel staff had very bad attitude. The pool was dirty. I have to change my room again becase the toliet overflowed in the middle of the night. The next room we had a lot more water damage but it was the last night so I just stayed in the room. The most horrible experience I have had a hotel. I have been a Hilton rewards member for a long time and stayed at a lot of their hotels. This hotel does not match the Hilton brand. There was more that happened but I will keep it short. My experience was so bad I sent an email to the CEO of Hilton Worldwide.

Thank you for your comments last week critiquing your stay in the summer of 2011. Much has changed in our hotel in the last 8+months since you stayed in our hotel. Clearly, we did not meet your expectations and on behalf of our entire team, I want to offer our apologies. Since your stay, we have changed a number of team members and gone through extensive customer service training. We have also had roof repairs to address the ceiling issues, and last Fall we instituted a comprehensive campaign to address bathroom condition. With this, I am confident that you would see an improved hotel. I am sure you will agree, that a lot can change in 8 months and perhaps you will give us a try again in the future.

“Probably the worst double tree I have been in.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Probably the worst double tree I have been in. Normally I don't check reviews as I trust most the Hilton Chains to be good. This place has its problems. They say non-smoking but our hallway and if you ran the AC the room smelled of cigarettes - which to a non smoker is NASTY. The bathroom is dated to say the least, mold and mildew growing on the wall above the shower. The faucet dripped all the time, no matter how hard you tried to turn it off. Nice new TV's though - that was about all that was good. Even some of the vending machines did not work - they sold drinks up front for more. I am Gold HHonors - and they is the treatment and room I got. The food at the Bistro was not bad, but not to the menu description - Rissoto is not the same as a rice Pilaf - but they call them the same.

Room Tip: There are a ton of hotels right there - shop around.

Thank you for taking time to relate your experiences at our hotel. Clearly, we did not meet your expectations and on behalf of our entire team, I want to offer our apologies. In the case of our hotel, we are not an exclusively non-smoking hotel and it would be inappropriate to represent our hotel in that fashion. We have set aside 9 smoking rooms in the hotel, all located at the back of the third floor. Even with that accommodation, occasionally we have guests who choose to smoke in a non-smoking room, regardless of the additional fee we might assess. We take great steps to recover rooms to a non-smoking state and clearly in the case of your room we missed the mark. We have a dedicated effort over the last several months to address bathroom condition, and while we have made monumental strides, we once again did not meet your expectations and a further apology is in order. Additionally, because of your comments we have met with vending machine operator and repaired the machines and addressed the mistake with Pilaf and Risotto on the menu. Again, thank you for taking the time to offer your feedback.

“Nice Place to Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

I have stayed at this hotel several different times during my numerous visits to Nashville. The rooms have a nice sitting area in addition to the bedroom area creating a great amount of space. The rooms are always clean and smell nice. The breakfast is buffet style, and while I prefer a cook to order breakfast, it isn't bad. Staff has always been friendly and helpful.

“nice but a bit worn”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

the room I had was ok, but had visable signs of needing a rehab in the bathroom. It's not great, but it did the trick and it was much cheaper than the hotels up near the opryland which is where my conference was. the ladies in the lobby bar were great and we had a great lunch (roast beef panini). the front desk staff was great too, but it's touch to make up for a worn out room.

I would like to personally thank you for taking time to acknowledge the pro’s and cons of your stay with us. Our restaurant and kitchen staff was thrilled to receive your comments and indeed, we do get a lot of favorable comments on our food, particularly the Roast Beef Panini! As you pointed out, it is the service provided by the staff and “personal touch” that makes the difference when evaluating the ‘bricks and mortar” of a hotel. Specific to your feedback on our bathroom condition, we have had a significant and directed effort at improving the bathroom condition and cleanliness in the last quarter of 2011. We have replaced a number of fixtures, upgraded the curved curtain rods and re-caulked and replaced all the tub mats in the hotel. Service is a continual improvement process and your comments clearly help us remained focused in our service delivery and position in market as a value-added hotel choice in the Airport/Opryland area.

“If you don't mind noise and mediocre quality, not too bad”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

One night here during a layover in Nashville.

Check-in: Friendly staff at front desk. My room was available for early check-in around noon.

Room: I thought it was a bit dated and especially the bathroom could be improved as it was fairly small with 7' ceilings and cheap bath/fixtures. Sort of Hampton-like. Lots of things contributed to the noise - a door that did not firmly latch allowed it to rattle whenever someone else closed a door (I finally stuffed a washcloth in the frame to get it to keep moving), poorly insulated windows and walls that allowed ambient noise, including overhead music from the hallway and pool, employees speaking loudly at each other down the hall (at 6:00am!!!!! - if I wasn't already awake, there would have been some butt chewing). Bed was comfortable and plenty of space for 3 people.

Food: Mediocre at best food at the Bistro. Breakfast was a slight step up from Hampton. I had the "signature" DoubleTree hamburger that was Wendy's level with frozen patties and frozen crinkle cut fries. I think a signature dish should be a little better. Can't suggest you eat here but you really need a car to find other options. Jenna at the bar was nice.

HiltonHonors: While I was given early check-in and complimentary breakfast, my request of high floor and away from elevator got me a room on the first floor just down from the conference rooms with pool chairs just outside my window. No upgrade offered even though rooms were available.

I'd really give this a 2.5 star rating and it might be more if you want a pool and something close to the airport. Quality of bath, loud noises (both from room design, guests, and employees), mediocre food will keep me from returning. Expect Hampton level and you won't be disappointed.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of our hotel and offer feedback regarding your specific stay. Hats off to Jenna for making us aware of your situation prior to your written feedback. Your guest room was near the pool with easy access to the recreation area. With that sometimes comes some carry over noise which our team is trained to handle, and in your circumstance we failed to meet your expectation, and we would like to apologize again for this inconvenience. Because we are an all-suite property, essentially every room is already an upgrade other than a room with a walk-out patio to the pool area.

Hilton has a large family of brands which includes both DoubleTree and Hampton Inns. Hampton Inns is an awarding winning brand and has been recognized by JD Powers and Associates for their exceptional service and while the comparison is noted there are some important differences. For example, the Hampton Inn on Broadway is consistently 50% more expensive, charges $17 for self-parking and is not an all suite property like ours is. The breakfast buffet options are extensive with DoubleTree and ours includes such things as Omelets and Waffles cooked to order, Artisan breads, Homemade muffins, Steel Cut Oatmeal, Fruit Galaxy, Yogurts, Sausages, Bacon, Potatoes, Eggs, French Toast, Assorted Juices, Coffees and much more.

Our Signature Hamburger remains a popular item and is ½ pound of Angus Beef, open flame grilled and served on a Cracked Wheat Bun. Our hamburger comes with a variety of side choices from cheeses, mushrooms, bacon and more. The Fries, as pointed out, are not hand cut, but our home-made potato chips are a popular choice to the crinkle cut fries.
