“New, Clean Property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

Stayed here in October (unfortunately during homecoming so it was pricier than it was really worth,) but overall the property was very nice. We stayed in a suite, which are very spacious and have a wonderful kitchenette, as well as a more than generous living area. The room was clean, although the housekeeping staff dragged their feet a bit about cleaning it while we were still in the room. Most of the staff was friendly and helpful, although one misrepresented what a cab fare would be across town by almost $25 because he got a cut for referral. The breakfast was ok, but the fruit they were serving was old and questionable, but the rest was generally nice. The construction didn't bother us in our room, but it did prove a bit annoying in the breakfast room, but nothing too bad. Overall the location is quite good, especially for Vanderbilt and West End, and the parking is free, which in this part of town is prime real estate, which adds serious value to this property. Overall a good choice for the location and facilities.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor in the back of the building to avoid construction noise.

“Not as good as it used to be”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Spent a night here recently. First room reeked of cigarette smoke, so we moved. (Hotel 100% non-smoking.) Clerk just OK about it, but we did get to move. The room we stayed in had loose mold under the tub mat, and the bathroom was dirty overall. We have stayed in this property many times, and it is usually awesome. Hotel under renovation, which looks like it will be great, and that is distracting, but not too bad. Disappointing stay.

“Under renovation, but great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

We were upgraded to a suite, which had recently been renovated. I would highly recommend the suite, as it had a nice set up and much more room than most other Hampton Inn suites. The living area was large and the kitchen plenty big. There was a door between the living room/kitchen and the bedroom/bathroom area, allowing for adequate privacy if necessary. There were also doors on the bedroom and bathroom, doubling the privacy. Although we were there for just one night and didn't really need or use all the extra room, I would definitely stay here again if I were a Vanderbilt parent going to a football game or graduation. There is plenty of room for get-togethers, plus lots of privacy and you could easily tailgate or entertain in this room. There's also an option of adding a bedroom through a connecting door. I'm sure when the renovations are done, this will be an even better place to stay.

“Nice property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

We stayed here to attend a wedding a week ago. The hotel is clean and the rooms are nice. The hot breakfast with waffles, eggs, etc is a nice touch. The staff in friendly and helpful. Location is good as it is only a couple miles to downtown.

“Terrible Product, Terrible Service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

Initially I was excited to be booked in what appeared to be a very nice hotel for an extended stay on the dime of my company. Initial good impressions quickly changed to a general state of being unimpressed and eventual outright disappointment and anger.

The hotel itself has the potential to be very nice. It has nice aesthetics, and they are renovating which is a sign of continuing improvement. The extended stay room assigned to me was spacious and had nice features such as wood floors and nice tiling throughout the bathroom. Unfortunately, these features do not outweigh the negatives.

I would rather stay in a simple hotel, with great service over a high-end hotel with crap service. The Hampton is the latter.

If you are on business and rely on Wi-Fi, don't count on it to do your evening business. The connection is horrid and for a span of three days I did not even have access to the internet.

Want a wake up call? Good luck. Unlike other efficient hotels that have automated wake up call service, you have to call the lobby to have the attendant schedule your wake up time. If the attendant is not close to the phone, pray that your cell alarm can wake you. One night I spent three minutes with the lobby desk ringing before I gave up and just went to bed.

Need to do laundry? Better hope no one else needs to at the same time. This is what, an eight or nine story hotel - guess how many washing machines they have? That's right! One, on the 7th floor, and of course it was occupied when I needed to do laundry at 12:30 a.m.

Cleanliness is obviously not a priority for the hotel's cleaning staff. When I pulled apart the trendy two-part couch, searching for an outlet, I found a bag of half eaten cheetos and a pack of dentyne ice gum - at least it was brand new, what a find!

Construction is unavoidable, and it's unfortunate that it happened during my stay. It was just the cherry on top to make my stay that much better. I enjoyed breathing in the dust particles from the cut pieces of drywall, and I made nice conversation with some of the construction workers (be it mostly broken English, God bless 'em) as I awkwardly tip- toed my way past them tiling the hall.

This hotel is NOT worth it, especially considering the price. You'd be better off at motel 6 - at least they leave the light on!

Room Tip: I'm not sure any room hear would be advisable.
