“Best B&B on the Great Ocean Road”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2011

We were very happy staying at the Athelstane. The room we had (Room 1) was spacious with the most comfortable king bed and the ensuite bathroom was roomy with a spa bath and heater (a big plus on cold nights). The Althelstane staff was amazing, going beyond the call of duty to ensure we were comfortable and happy. Breakfast options provided were excellent and the food was deliciously cooked. So was dinner - the fig and walnut crumble was divine!! We would definitely return to picturesque Queenscliff and staying at the Athestane.

Room Tip: Book one of the larger balcony rooms

“terrible”

I stayed recently for business and I have to say I was less than impressed. I was on Room 7: no view, no balcony, QS bed and dated fittings. There were cobwebs on the inside of the windows that made me suspicious of the cleaning standards and while my room had a spa, it was not working. The room was quite large however the TV was tiny and the cheap window dressings meannt that the room was flooded with light in the early hours whether you wanted or not! I have read great reviews about the balcony rooms with KS beds - my room was nothing like that!

“Lovely but has its downsides”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2011

This is a lovely hotel, wonderfully renovated and decorated. It is in a fantastic location next to the main street and very close to the beach and main pier. The breakfast provided was great and there was a good range of options to choose from. Unfortunately it does have several negatives. The room we stayed in was the king room and it was very dark. The light needed to be on during the day. Secondly the TV was VERY small for the size of the room. There was no light globe in one of the bed side lamps. Being in the central location it's in it was also a little noisy at night. The reception was supposed to be attended until 9pm, however we tried to contact them at 7pm for about 15min and no one could be found anywhere.

“Brilliant Place to Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2011

Really enjoyed our three nights in Queenscliff. Staff were accommodating and helpful, especially when we required an earlier breakfast than they normally supplied. The balcony room we had was spacious and clean, bed was comfortable and the mega sized spa was fantastic and very relaxing.

We ate in the restaurant for both breakfast and also had an evening meal there. Food was delicious and the staff were excellent.

The location is very central in Queenscliff, close to the water and the centre of town. This place had off street parking for our car also.

Would definitely stay there again next time I'm in Queenscliff.

“Best Quality B&B/Boutique Hotel in Queenscliff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 April 2010

Having stayed in Queenscliff on numerous occasions in the past 5 years, I have found Athelstane to be the best all round B&B/ boutique hotel in Queenscliff. The rooms are well appointed and very comfortable. The larger bedrooms are very spacious with balconies, though at least one of the bedrooms in the hotel is much more compact! All of the bedrooms have well appointed bathrooms with contemporary bedroom furnishings. The breakfast is excellent and the restaurant is very well regarded. Indeed, it is so popular that you are strongly advised to make a reservation in advance or you will find yourself eating elsewhere! I have always found the staff very helpful and I am sure you will enjoy Athelstane as much as myself and my wife have.
