We visited this Maffra hostel rather than stopping at Lakes Entrance as we had seen the good reviews. We wish we hadn't! This place must've seriously gone down hill in the last few years. It was smelly, filthy and full of some very scary and not welcoming characters. You can see that the place at one point had character but the love has gone. The owner confessed they were trying to sell up and you could most definitely tell. I hope this review helps people make the right decision. This place is not pleasant, choose elsewhere!!!

The Cambrai hasn't been reviewed here in a few years, but it's still great! I stayed for a few days in December and the owners Ron and Marg are so helpful and welcoming. If you're on a working holiday, they'll help you find work in the farms or onsite. The hostel is in the centre of town with Woolworths just a quick walk away. Rooms are clean and comfy, my only complaint would be the room had no window, so no fresh air- there is a fan and a vent though. Otherwise everything was wonderful and I really enjoyed my time there.

I was highly impressed and Marg was both knowledgeable and helpful regarding local amenities. I travel a lot but have never stayed in a back-packers establishment - I would definitely go back if I get the opportunity. I travelled alone but with my S.O. I know we'd still have a fabulous time. I highly recommend Cambrai backpackers,Maffra. Ron and Marg are friendly and very helpful and the place seems more like home than a hostel! A definate must for backpackers in the area!
