“What a shame they don't have a whole chain of Graebern Lodges!!”

Just returned from my 4th stay at Graebern Lodge in 18 months. I cant speak highly enough of the service the wonderful owners of this beautiful establishment provide. Not only is the accommodation luxurious and filled with creature comforts, but its the little touches that make so much difference. I recently left some jewellery at the residence and contacted the owners to see if they could try and locate it for me. Not only did they find my jewellery where I had left it, they packaged it up and sent it to me via registered mail without even a request! From the freshly baked bread, to the choccies and breakfast, not to mention the beautiful views and walks, this is a must visit establishment. Cant wait for October when I'll be back!

“Very good self-service B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2010

We wanted two rooms to stay for a night near Ballarat, and while Graebern isn't cheap, staying in their two-bedroom suite (which looks precisely like the website) worked out much better than booking two anonymous motel rooms. You'll never even see the owners if you stay here, but there's breakfast in the fridge, bread in the machine and chocolate and a flask of port by the door. The kitchen is remarkably well equipped, the beds are comfy, the jacuzzi is (just) big enough for two, and it's a short hop to the center of Buninyong for supermarkets and places to eat.

Downsides: dishwasher was broken, so we had to do the washing up by hand, and the soundproofing isn't too great -- we could clearly hear the guests upstairs. The totally hands-off management approach also means that resolving any problems would be hard.

We had the surprise of some lovely bread baking for us when we arrived. We found it very clean and everything we needed. lovely and quiet. Thankyou! Take your bikes...only 10 ks into Ballarat along a bike path.

“A wonderful place to stay on our wedding night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2009

We spent our wedding night at this Bed & Breakfast and would highly recommend it to any one. The unit was clean and welcoming, they had even put the air conditioners on for us as it was close to 40 degrees that day. They had fresh bread baking in the bread maker and a lovely range of breakfast foods for the next morning. Upstairs the main room was lovely with complimentary choccies and port for us to enjoy and the bed was huge and really comfy- and we even had PayTv in the bedroom. Overall a lovely place to stay and relax after a big wedding day

“Nice place - crap management with BAD attitude”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 March 2009

Very nice accommodation 6 kms from Ballarat. 3 self contained apartments. Owners live off site so we took only key that was in the key safe and let ourselves in. Provisions for breakfast and home baked bread were promised on arrival but there was no sign also no milk for a cuppa. Couldn't call as our cell phone had no coverage (rural location) and no phone in units. Upon checking out wed left a note to say what about food we did not receive (it is a B&B after all). I then received an email accusing us off entering wrong unit and because it was our 'fault' - tough! I replied politely stating there had only been one key (or do all keys access all 3 apartments?) and it was hardly good PR to blame the guest and then got another rude email so gave up at this point. I suggest they supply phones in the apartments as there is no contact from the owners at all. Also they advise they have internet but we required a password and there was no information as to what password was so could not use. I would not recommend this place to anyone after our negative experience of owners with an attitude. If they'd refunded us say $20 AUD I would have been very happy but instead received a barage of abusive emails. Gives Victorians a bad name. This is I might add a property with a 4.5 star rating.

It is unfortunate that that these guests have chosen to post this review.
They arrived late in the evening, on arrival when they rang me, I clearly explained that as we had a problem with the toilet in the Garden Spa Suite (2 bedroom ground floor ) which they had booked, we had upgraded them at no cost to the Penthouse Spa Suite which is a 3 bedroom suite on the 1st floor, they were given clear instructions as to the location of the key safe and where to enter the suite, we had obviously prepared this suite for them and included their breakfast provisions.

For some reason they did not follow my instructions, they went to the Garden Spa Suite safe which had unfortunatley been left unlocked by the Plumber following his visit to rectify toilet problem.
Each suite has a name plate at the entrance, the key safes are in different locations and the keys have the suite name on the tag.

They didn't contact me regarding the missing breakfast, internet problem or to check that they were indeed in the correct suite as the one they entered only had 2 bedrooms. Instead left a note of complaint and requested a refund for the breakfast they didn't receive.

In short, had they followed my directions and stayed in the correct suite there wouldn't have been any problems.
The internet is provided free of charge but is on a secure network that requires a password to access, this is explained in the guest information book in the suite.

It is totally unreasonable to expect some form of refund when we had indeed provided everything required for their booking including a free upgrade to a more expensive suite.
