“Quiet Weekend Away with Friends”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

This is such an historic place, very old sandstone pub on the original Cobb and Co route. A beautiful little village. This place is rustic to the extreme. The accommodation is comfortable and reasonably clean. The food is good and wholesome and generous in servings.
There was a jazz band on in the garden on Sunday afternoon and they were very good. The weather for our weekend left a lot to be desired. It truly is a complete getaway.....no tv, no mobile service and no wifi.

“Beautiful building and setting. Rude Staff!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

We stayed at "The Courthouse B&B" which was wonderful. However the staff at "The Settlers Arms Inn" were very uncourteous and treated our questions about whether they would serve dinner as if we had offended them. My husband could hear them whingeing about it in the kitchens. He also found the beer they served unpleasant and the bar maid's manner abrupt. We ended driving a 42 km round trip for dinner at Wiseman's Ferry each of the two nights we were there. It is a shame that they have such a gem of a building when they clearly don't deserve it. St Albans will thrive better without their "service". Next time we will gladly stay at the Courthouse again but we will be taking our own groceries and giving the Inn a wide berth.

“Not to bad i guess.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2011

The cabins out the back of the Inn were great.
Authenticaly laid out inside for the era they were looking for.
I was a bit amused to find the was no TV knowing that i never watched Tv anyway.
It was all too expensive for what we got though.
The big turn off was my fellow travelers being inconsiderate of other travelers.

“Beautiful bowerbirds and great cappucino”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2010

We were on a private birding tour and our guide had never stayed here so none of us really had much to go on beyond the glossy photo on the website. In real life, the building may not be glossy but it is very charming, the staff was friendly and we certainly hadn't dreamed that we would find a yard full of juvenile Bowerbirds and a kitchen serving up tasty food and great cappucino! The cabins were clean, comfortable, warm, quiet and the early morning walk around the grounds and up the road was relaxing and very birdy. Would have loved to stay another night and had a chance to try out the pool.

“A great surprise.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2010

We booked this place at the last minute without any research and headed off with an open mind. Travelling from Sydney with 2 kids we took the scenic 5 Ferries Drive (cross the rivers on car ferries) and stopped at the Wiseman's Ferry Pub for lunch. The kids were able to safely run around in the paddock below. We headed across the river and arrived at the Settlers Arms about 3pm in the afternoon. We waited a while to go into the rooms as the Saturday tourist crowd were all still settled in the grass padock adjacent to the rooms. Once they all cleared out the kids had run of the place. We loved the old convict buildings and charm of the place. We booked a table for dinner and loved the crisp white tablecloth put over the original timber table on the roadside. The meals were lovely. I had a salmon with pork belly and fresh greens. What we saved on the room (very basic) we spent on food and wine! Great mix of locals and tourists. Mingled with everyone and had a great experience. The kids swam in the pool and we did lots of bushwalking the following day. The breakfast was a bit slow but lovely with homemabde jams etc. Really enjoyed it - perhaps even more so as we had no expectations.
