We rented the entire property for a 23 person family reunion and everyone was very happy with our choice. The main house has several large rooms on the main floor that are open air, ocean to one side, pool to the other, with lots of places for us to gather in small or large groups. Overall the spaciousness if the property was very desirable for this kind of event. The staff was very friendly and efficient, and we particularly appreciated Iyali, the manager, who acted like a concierge, helping us to book activities like snorkeling and horseback riding. The accommodation comes with breakfast, which included a buffet with cereal, fresh fruit and sweet and regukar breads, followed by a hot course. We requested chili rellenos one morning and they were fabulous, actually my favorite meal of the week. Through Iyali and Sean, the owner, we arranged to hire cooks at a very reasonable price to prepare all our dinners, and we reimbursed Iyali at cost for the food. This was quite cost effective and perfect for our large group. The food was fine, not exceptional and not gourmet, but fine, and the convenience especially for the moms couldn't be beat. The town of Guayabitos is a middle class Mexican family resort town with few gringos which was nice. We actually liked it better than Sayulita, half an hour south by car, which is somewhat more developed as a tourist desination for Americans. The town is not upscale but authentic and charming in its own way. It grew on us more and more oveer the coure of the week we were there. this property is in more upscale residential area north of town where there are some very nice properties evidently owned by wealthier MeXicans. Negatives...well, Guayabitos is not the place to come if you are looking for restaurant dining that is comfortable for Americans, and you definitely need a car to get/ stay here unless you just want to hang out on the beach or by the pool. The rooms all have their own bathrooms and were great...except the bungalows which were a bit musty due to lack of cross ventilation. The refrigerator in the large bungalow smelled badly and did not cool well, and the hot water in the shower in the small bungalow wasn't there without a long wait which felt wasteful--our kids came up and took showers in the main house. Overall the bubgalows werent nearly as nice as the main house. These were small flaws however in an otherwise excellent week at Villa Corona del Mar.
