“Shocking experience”

We booked a room at the Tadross a few weeks ago, price quoted was £45.00 for a double room and breakfast. We arrived at 830pm on Saturday 14th January and were told that they close the doors at 1am and that the continental breakfast was served from 7am to 10am.

The room was okay, nothing special, we headed out immediately to visit friends, returning at 0045am but were unable to gain access without phoning the hotel first as they'd neglected to give us a front door key. Once inside, all was well.

We went downstairs for breakfast about 915am only to find that there was no bread, milk or hot water for tea and coffee? There were two already opened cartons of juice in a small chill cabinet which we refused to touch as we seemed to be the only guests and had no idea how long they'd been open. We were unable to find any staff for a while despite shouting. We eventually found an Irish guy who worked there (cleaner?) and who immediately said the lack of breakfast was nothing to do with him. To be fair, he went to a small shop across the road and returned with several pints of milk and 3 loaves of cheap sliced bread for the two of us......

By now we were very disappointed and decided that we'd skip breakfast. I spoke to the owner via the Irish guy's mobile, who agreed to a £10 reduction in price in lieu of breakfast and who sounded a bit angry as he said he employed staff to cover breakfast etc. We gathered our belongings and went to the reception to pay but were unable to find any staff. After 10 minutes a young long haired lad appeared to take payment. I tried to explain what were doing and the price reduction and it seemed he was responsible for the lack of breakfast, He didn't apologise and got defensive when I pointed out he was trying to still charge us £45 instead of £35. Once we'd paid, I stated that I'd never stayed in such a disorganised hotel, his response was "What do you expect for £45?"..... I asked him if he was taking the p!ss and had to be lead away quickly by my partner.

In short, avoid this hotel at all costs, the experience was dreadful with "customer service" apparently an alien concept.

“Friendly, clean rooms and cheap stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

Very friendly staff, clean rooms and good pub. Only downside was no cooked breakfast which would have push the score to five. Other than that, enjoyed the stay and would go again.

“Very easy going and excellent service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011 via mobile

I've stayed at Tadross Hotel at least 7 times if not more. Always enjoyed a warm welcome and the friendly staff. The rooms are comfortable and tidy. The hotel is but 5 minutes walk from Barry town centre aswell as Cadoxton Train station. Easy access to Barry Island beach by foot or rail. Also has many close amenities and takeaway places. The rooms have Tea and Coffee facilities. Freeview TV. Ensuite bathrooms with showers. The public house below the accomadation is very welcoming but can be a little noisy at the weekend. Karaoke nights every weeks. Generally a fun and pleasant place to stay as well as welcoming and friendly staff.

“Tacky. threadbare ,Desperatly in need of refurbishment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

We have recently stayed at the Tadross for 2 nights during Sept 2011........... we were shown to our room which had a terrible smell and was informed by the staff that this was from the aftershave of the previous occupier........ we did not feel this was the case and asked to move rooms which they did. , The second room had stains on the bed,,,,,,iron burns in the carpet and a general tacky appearance............... The pub in general is in a poor state of repair and again tacky.......... the bar stools have several ripped layers on and genral bar sticky to say the least.................There is an enclosed and i suspect illegal smoking room at the rear of the pub which has been constructed and had a TV put in,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, this is occupied till at least 12.30 most nights........The costs of the rooms is far too much for the standard offered. Re breadfast..... its a continental one which basically means make your own toast and cups of tea and get your own juice........... It was too late to book anywhere else due to the large convention in town......................would i recommend this place............ NO WAY.................. at night we were advised by the receptionist that at night the car park is secured for security but there is a porter on all night,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, however when we spoke to the porter, he stated he never locks it as its a fire exit route....................and for access

“Great 1 night stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

We had booked a day trip for a Gavin & Stacey tour and needed a room for 3 people for a reasonable price. We managed to book a family room within the Tadross hotel for £65 including breakfast which was reasonable to be shared between 3 people. We did not expect much for this price.
When we arrived we were greeted by friendly bar staff, and although we could not check in until 3 we asked to leave our luggage behind. She showed us to our room and let us check in at 10 am! We arrived back to the hotel at 6 pm ready to relax and have an early night but we found out there was a kareoke evening in the pub. We thought we would have one drink to see what it is like. Well, we were having so much fun we didn't realise the time was 1 am! We were welcomed by everyone there, staff and punters, they were all so friendly. The drinks were very cheap, we had a bottle of wine for £7.50!
Our room was large, very comfy beds, bathroom is small but new.

If you are staying in Barry, I would highly recommend this hotel, it looks a bit run down but you are made to feel so welcome.

Thanks to all the staff that made our visit to Barry a memorable one!

Room Tip: Ask for a room within the hotel, we had a room in the garden area and the light shone through the do...
