We chose Plas Mawr essentially for the location - it's close to some of the forest stages in the area which comprise WRC Wales Rally GB. Located between Machynlleth and Aberystwyth it enjoys a rural backdrop in the hamlet of Eglwys Fach - not that great when we arrived in the fog and the rain but absolutely stunning when we departed the following morning in bright sunshine. The welcome was warm and friendly and nothing was too much trouble - including checking on-line to see exactly how far we needed to drive the next day and how long it would take. Ascending the old curved staircase our rooms on the first floor were fairly typical of what you would expect in a traditional Welsh stone built house - being fairly large and featuring high ceilings and a fire place. They were clean and well presented - and despite the fact that the b&b is located on the main road - and our rooms both faced it - we had no real problems sleeping. Breakfast was very good indeed - being both plentiful and of good quality - and really set us up for the day ahead in the forests. We were advised to either travel back up to Machynlleth or drive 3 miles south towards Aberystwyth in order to find somewhere for dinner the previous evening - and elected to try the latter which brought us to the Wildfowler Inn where we enjoyed an excellent meal. Perhaps the only slight downside to Plas Mawr is the fact that they have no card facilities and only accept cash or cheque payments - but nonetheless if we are in this area again we would not hesitate to pay a return visit.
