“Great location, that's it!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

I choose the Old Cross Hotel for my stay because it's in the centre of the town, oh sorry, the city of St.David's and most B&B are closed this time of year. The rooms are a bit 1970ish, but spotless clean. Everything what you expect is there (tea/coffee facilities, tv etc.). The house is a bit loud, so make sure to get a room at the end of the floor.
The breakfast was o.k..

this hotel is located right in the center of st. davids and is a ideal location for visiting the fantastic cathederal and surrounding areas, fantastic beaches.a truly magical place.
the hotel is somewhat in a time capsul from the past in decor and in many ways needs updating, but with saying this it is a very warm and friendly and professional ran hotel, rooms are somewhat old fashioned and undoubtably need modernising but please do not loose the magical feel this place has. the beds are very comfotable and the bathroom very good, we had a room over looking the old square lovely and quiet. all meals are served in the dining room, but bar meals are offered in the bar lounge. We took all our meals over our 3 day stay in the restaurant, which was quiet and to be truthful we were not expecting much foodwise, in respect of the menu, we selected a leak and potato soup as a starter followed by a filet of plaice which was to be pan grilled with brown butter and capers, with a very good selction of veg and a lemon cheesecake dessert, what we got was a meal of culinary perfection both in taste and presentation, I was so happy with the meal I asked to meet the chef Andy and compliment him on this meal and to ask if we could have the plaice again the following evening. the food on every evening was out of this world and the breakfasts were just the same, ask to try the porridge as well, just yummie! Mr owner make sure you hang on to this Chef ANDY his cooking and presentation is of michelin star quality.
We always love visiting St. Davids and staying at The Old Cross, The management and staff were as they always have been SUPERB, Thanks everyone for yet again a wonderful stay. Wilf Hodgson

Room Tip: room 13 or 16 are square facing and are quiet and comfortable.

“Old Cross Hotel, St Davids”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

I've known this hotel for years - since it used to be one of the few decent places to get a drink before St Davids developed itself into a must-go destination in the UK. Now that our family camping days are (almost) over we took to The Old Cross for a few nights. In the centre of the city (yes city), it has kept its gentrified atmosphere - and idiosyncracies - during recent re-furbs. Drinks on the lawn, relaxing with books in the big lounge and meeting some of the local drinkers in the bar are all very pleasurable. The room that I and Mrs. T stayed in was large, well, if slightly ecclectically, furnished and very clean. The tarriff - £113 in high season B&B for twin/double – was slightly high for what you get but the off season £72 is a bargain.
By now there are a number of very good eating places in the city, a couple more pubs for food and good beer, and good bus connections to local beaches and cliff-path walks.

“Great Location - Great Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

Stayed here with a group of 12 walkers doing the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. The staff was very helpful with logistics. The rooms were all very comfortable. A dead lightbulb was replaced immediately. Very convenient to all the buses connecting villages and trailheads. The dinners were excellent. We were here for six nights and presented the chef with a challenge to try a different menue each night. Would return without hesitation.

“Not just any old bar food !!”

This is just a review of the food/service in the Old Cross Hotel. Having previously(June2011)had a fantastic meal in the hotel restaurant we were keen to return for seconds!. As it was now the "close" season we were told that the main restaurant was closed for winter and there was only bar meals.
We were initially dissapointed but the quality of the food and service in the bar were equally as good as we remembered. We had one exellent 'light' lunch and a lovely evening meal.
The beef stew was gorgeous and the fruit crumble was "to die for". The menu is very reasonably priced especially compared to other eating establishments in St Davids. Our meal for two with drinks came to £35.00. I would willingly pay more for such delicious hearty fayre.
The head barman (unfortunately didnt get his name) was excellent as was the waitress.
We will definately return again............and again
