Reading some of the negative reviews, it's possible there is a wide variation in rooms here - the room we're in has obviously been renovated fairly recently, clean - nice big bathroom with walk-in shower - flat screen telly with Sky Sports. In room tea/coffee - it's a solid 3* hotel in terms of facilities.
Mariners is not a chain hotel - you're likely to be served by the owners in reception or behind the cozy bar (with excellent, well kept beer BTW) at some point. Unless it was full, if you didn't like your room, I'm of the opinion they'd happily move you. They provided free tea/coffee and Welsh Cakes for the folks watching the Rugby World Cup Final at 9am on a Sunday.
Some of the place is 100's of years old, so you'll either think the place is a bit of a warren, or that it has character - I'm plumping for the latter.
Good breakfast included in the price - serves lunch and dinner too - not haute cuisine, but well cooked, honest grub - best fish and chips I'd have some some time, for instance.
I'd be surprised if there's another place in town that was better - but if you're an international traveller and expecting a cookie cutter experience, perhaps West Wales isn't for you.
