Having enjoyed a previous stay at Palé Hall, I was looking forward to my stay over the Christmas holidays. I knew it would be good but I can honestly say my expectations were exceeded. It was absolutely superb from beginning to end. From the moment the scene was set with the welcome afternoon tea, Christmas cake and Welsh scones with jam and cream on arrival, while relaxing in one of the most elegant and tastefully decorated lounges beside a roaring log fire, the attention to detail from Judy, Saul and the team was faultless throughout. If it was not for the vast quantity of superb food we were offered throughout our festive stay, I could easily have lingered another week or so... as it was, I now need a New Year diet!
I thoroughly recommend Palé Hall to anybody looking for a relaxed but very elegant country house weekend on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park and within a short drive of some of the best scenery Wales has to offer. It's not meant to be a hotel for families with small children however. Instead it is a completely restful retreat for those who don't generally enjoy listening to or making compromises for other people's offspring. With that single proviso, anybody who still appreciates a few touches of elegance - especially the expectation that one dresses for dinner - will love the place. I can't wait until my next visit.
