“Overall good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

After staying in Feb 2009 we decided on another short break. Happy with our deal of £139 for 2 nights b&b plus dinner on the first night and overall was good value.
We were sent on the long route to our room rather than through the lounge/bar area and our first impression of our room was how dark it was. There were 2 small spotlights by the door/ outside the bathroom door but the bedroom area only had a floor light and the bedside lights. It was extremely gloomy as the decor is very dark. It is great to have free wi-fi in room but I struggled with the little work I had to do as needed to perch laptop and papers on knee under the lamp, needs a desk lamp as a minimum. Agree with previous comments re bathrooms not being fully updated and having old tiles, had minor issues with the lack of a hook and little shelf space. Bed comfortable, I found sofa uncomfortable.
Food in the Verve was ok for the price but long wait between courses, Breakfast was fine with reasonable choice. Not too busy so self-service coffee not an issue but it isn't the best.
Staff were all pleasant and helpful.
It doesn't take long to get to Chester (we used the Park & Ride) so I'd disagree with the 'nowhere near Chester' comment.

“Truly awful.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Hotel it's self isn't that bad - but the bar in there is disgraceful (prices are very good though, in all fairness).

It started off with getting chicken wings that didn't match the order - then they were replaced without complaint for another set - the ones that came were so hot my partner and I only managed one each (and we both love spice) they were so spicy it burnt your tongue & lips. When I said this to the waitress her reply was "the kitchen said they'd be hot" and then walked off giggling.

Secondly if you go to the pub in the hotel - avoid the alcohol. It is constantly flat. I ordered two pints of Becks, both of which were flat - my partner drank their's because they didn't want to complain. However I took my back - I was given (after a ten minute wait) a pint that had been sat on the bar for 5minutes - with an inch mising out the top of it, and told it'd "just been poured" - this fresh pint was also flat, so I asked for another one - which was flat, so I then asked for another one, it was served in a bitter glass, so was obviously flat, then on their fifth attempt I asked instead if I could have a pint of Stella being their only other lager, to my dismay this was also flat. I asked for my money back and was looked at and spoken to like dirt.

Sent a written complaint, and recieved an offer of a complimentary stay - which we accepted - and we were given a room over looking the staff smoking area and some air conditioning units.

“Good value business hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

A quality hotel at a good price. .
Others have commented about the fact that it is a bit of a maze with signage not that good to find your room. I would fully agree, especially as I was about as far away from reception as possible. Room was well furnished with a comfortable bed.
Bar meals in the Victory "pub" were very average, but the grill restaurant was much better. Good quality breakfast.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms in the x40 range, these are in a wing closer to the the dual carriageway and can experie...

“Very Nice Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Me and my boyfriend came to stay at the hotel for one night from down south. The hotel is very nice and looks very modern which creates a great atmosphere when you first arrive. Receptionists were very knowledgeable and helpful.
Our room was very nice and spacious, the soap dispenser was broken but that soon got fixed by maintenance when we called reception. The pub is ok although the prices of beer are fairly expensive a pint of guinness was over £4!
When we came to have dinner in the verve restaurant we were surprised that the lay out didn't particularly match the rest of the hotel. We sat down and ordered our food, this took a long time to come and me and my boyfriend were getting rather impatient. We were being looked after by a young man called Jay, he was very friendly and helpful and also made me and my boyfriend laugh a lot which helped our mood a lot which was brilliant. We agreed to try the restaurants new olives which were lovely. When the food finally came it was very nice, we had steak which was lovely.
The breakfast in the morning was nice and had everything we could have wanted which was brilliant. Jay from the previous night was working and he wrote down a list of things we could do in Chester which was very good and we did nearly everything on the list but unfortunately didn't have time to do the rest!
Overall I would happily stay here again and would reccomend it.

“nice hotel but you need a map to find you room”

I have stayed here a number of times and have just returned from a short business stay. The hotel is a big hotel which is the problem. It is difficult to navigate around the place as you walk through bars and conference rooms to try and find your room. The number of fire doors can also be a problem if you are carrying luggage as they are heavy. That said, the rooms are very comfortable and the breakfast was good and the staff are helpful.
