“Lovely hotel...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

My wife and I stayed here for a weekend away for her birthday in November 2011. The location was perfect for us as it was close to Porthmadog where we spent quite a lot of time. Also nearby was Portmeirion as well as the beautiful scenery of the Snowdonia National Park.
The hotel owners and their staff were friendly and helpful at all times. The bedroom was lovely, clean and met our expectations completely. We did not eat in the restaurant for our evening meal, however the breakfast was good.
This is a nice place to stay and did not disappoint us at all. We would certainly return.

“A little Gem for a 3 star hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

As a member of Royal St David’s GC that is opposite I have had the pleasure of staying here on a number of occasions this year and have always enjoyed my time here.

First of all, please remember this is only a 3 star hotel so you have to review it in that context.

Plus points
Location - Not far to walk to the sea (breathtaking), opp the Golf Course and sits under Harlech Castle. Getting to the town does require a VERY steep climb so be aware. Yes it is next to a road and railway line (very few trains) but at night its very quiet indeed.

Service always very good and friendly, in reception, the bar and restaurant.

Food excellent both for dinner and breakfast

Good choice of real ale and whiskies

Bedrooms comfortable and clean (not immaculate but very good for a 3*)

Negative points

None really for a three star hotel.

Would I return?
Definitely

“A good value. An enjoyable stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2011

We stayed at this hotel for two nights in July. We really didn't know what to expect, but the price was right, as was the location, and we figured we'd give it a try. We had a very pleasant stay. It's clearly a family run hotel... and that can be both good and bad. We got no help with the luggage even though there was a strapping young man sitting by the door earnestly gazing at his computer when we entered. But the female owner (and the strapping young man) were very amiable and eager to be helpful in every other way during our stay. The room was basic, but comfortable. We had a front corner room so we got a lovely cross breeze during the day. The hotel is right on a main road and so there is traffic, but you can close the window and that deadens the noise. The parking lot was easy to find, and to get in and out of... which was a blessing. The bathroom was fine, but it could have been cleaner. What was unexpected was the quality of the restaurant food. We had a very satisfying meal at the hotel one night... fresh, seasonal, and very well-prepared and served. The breakfasts were good, too. They lock the place up at night, so don't stay out too late or you'll be sleeping on the beach! Overall, an enjoyable stay and a very good value.

“Inconsistent!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

We ate in the restaurant on consecutive nights during our stay in a B& B in Harlech. The restaurant is very popular and reservations are recommended.

On the first night we chose from the specials board and had local oysters for starters and Conwy grey mullet for the main course. Both were delicious.Service was friendly and well paced. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening.

Based upon our experience we booked a table for the next night.. However the menu was disappointing with no local specials and the main menu was standard pub fare.
Service was slow and our table was in an area which lacked any atmosphere. The bread with our soup was under cooked and came straight from the freezer. The fish and chips were acceptable.

The bar where we were directed to wait for our table was grubby with stained chair cushions.

“Very welcoming, comfortable and friendly”

Stayed here for one night while on a cycling trip in Wales with 6 others. The family run hotel is very comfortable and well run. Rooms are clean and the bed very comfortable.

We ate in the restaurant - there were 7 clean plates & bowls at the end of each course. Decent wine list as well.

Manager was very helpful in making sure our bikes were properly secured overnight.

Would recommend.
