“Boutique heaven!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

We stayed at the New White Lion as part of our honeymoon and we were glad we did. We had a warm welcome from Sylvia and besides the very tasty afternoon tea we received complimentary bubbly and chocolates on arrival at our room (the Lady of the Lake). Our room was lovely: clean and very comfortable with lovely interior design and furnishings. The atmosphere is luxurious but comfortable, relaxing and unpretentious. The lounge and honesty bar is lovely and we were happy to spend time there (pretending it was our own!). We enjoyed dinner and our breakfasts with a wide selection of both hot and cold locally sourced food. Although the hotel is based on a through road the traffic noise is not obtrusive and did not disturb our sleep. We were also recommended a local walk by the proprietor to visit the site of our room's namesake which was great - it is a beautiful area and great for walking. A perfect start to our honeymoon!

“A magic week end”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

My daughter was married at the end of July and as a thank you she bought my wife and I a week end in The New White Lion in Wales. The hotel under the Mr. and Mrs Smith brand is on a main road in Llandovery in a beautiful refurbished building run by the cheereful Gerrard and Sylvia. The ambience is totally relaxed with tastefully decorated rooms and food to die for. The couple is extremely helpful and very friendly and made us all very welcome. We first thought that it would be a noisy hotel but it turned out to be in a quiet area and we had good nights sleep. By its proximity to the hills and forests around it is ideal for anyone keen on outdoor activities. I thoroughly recommend it for all discerning travellers.

Room Tip: Choose the Lady in the Lake room

“A great way to start our honeymoon.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

We were given some money to stay somewhere great during our honeymoon and we were glad we chose the new white lion. We arrived later then planned on the sunday evening but were welcomed like family. We were shown to our room (lady of the lake) where sylvia had given us a complementary bottle of prosseco. She then informed us that we had the hotel to ourselves and that the evening menu was in the lounge. At first we thought this would be strange but actually it was brilliant. The honesty bar stocked with wales' finest was great and our meal was superb.
The rooms were comfortable and clean and had excellent facilities.
The breakfast was freshly cooked to order and there was a great selection of non cooked items available, all welsh and the best quality.
If you want a great place to stay, with good food and excellent service which isn't run of the mill then this is the place to be.

Room Tip: lady of the lake room is great and is in the middle price range.

“Lovely hotel but very very strange experience!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

Arrived at the New White Lion to a warm welcome from Sylvia and were shown to our room (The Lady of the Lake) which was lovely. We had a really nice meal that evening and the place felt so comfortable and relaxing.

Unfortunately the next day things changed slightly and we were stangely accused (by Sylvia's husband) of having the lights on for too long and because of this the lights had blown! We had only been up for around an hour and so that's the absolute maximum time we would have had the lights on for. He even came back and removed the dimmer switch altogether so we couldn't put the main lights on. He also informed us that they'd have to get an electrician out to fix them.

I stay away at least once a week and I've never ever been accused of something so bizarre. We even contemplated checking out there and then but decided that we shouldn't let it ruin our weekend. I've never heard of something so ridiculous and to be honest, if lights are blowing like that then they should blame whoever did the electrics and not paying guests.

On this basis I will never be recommending the New White Lion to any friends.

“A real surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2011

The hotel is listed in Mr & Mrs Smith, and looked very interesting a quirky.
It is down a somewhat non-descript street in the drovers town of Llandovery. The welcome from the owner was heartfelt and the revelation of the lounge bar from behind the cupboard, paid for under an honesty system was delighful.
All the rooms named after local legends. We stayed in the Lady of the Lake.
Breakfast was fresh and cooked to perfection. Then came the assitance with our stay - great ideas for walking, bird watching, scenery trip. Could not have been friendlier.
This is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in, It is a million miles from the chain hotels, this is a unique hotel with great hosts. Try it !
