I have stayed in many downtown Memphis hotels and was convinced they were all dumps, until I stayed at the Memphis Marriott. The bathroom was a good layout with good water temp and pressure; however, the shower head had a wide spray that was not adjustable. The vanity space was good. A good hair dryer was provided, but no make up mirror. Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy toiletries were provided. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and I slept well. The hallway was very quiet, and although I could hear some traffic noise from the expressway, it wasn't too bad. The TV was a flat screen with good reception and sufficient channels. It rotated so it could be visible from any place in the room. No microwave or mini refrig - only a single serve coffee maker. Only 1 regular & 1 decaf coffee pack provided daily. The sitting area had a comfy upholstered chair & ottoman, but the ottoman was stained. The HVAC unit worked and was accurate! No WiFi connection issues were noted, sufficient number of outlets were provided, a large work desk and table, and sufficient lighting. The double closet doors are mirrored so there is a full-length mirror, lots of closet and drawer space. The staff from the front desk, room service, valet, and housekeeping were all very friendly and helpful. The gift shop stocked sandwiches, drinks, yogurt, fruit, bagels and some pasties and is open at 6 AM, which was convenient. The fitness center is open 24 hours and has a lot of equipment in good shape. They also provide towels, water, headsets for the built in TVs, and magazines. It is located in a secluded area, which concerned me since I work out at 5 or 5:30 AM, but I was told there are surveilance cameras and it can only be accessed by guests with their room key. It was well used when I was there, so I felt comfortable. There are 2 towers and banks of elevators. I never waited a full minute for one. I did not use the business center, pool or laundry room, which is a good size with several machines. The hotel food was not great, but good, and the service was prompt and accurate. My only complaint is that I felt self conscience when I cleaned my plate as it was commented on the next delivery. I stayed 3 nights and the 2nd AM I didn't get a newspaper, even after reporting it to the front desk. The 3rd AM I received a Wall Street Journal when I had requested a USA Today, but at least I had a paper. I used the express check out and requested a final bill be emailed, but it was not, and I had to request one 2 more times before finally receiving it. Parking is $18/day for on-site self parking or $20/day valet, which was very prompt and I was addressed by name upon returning daily. Overall, I was very pleased with my stay and will stay there again.
