“Rude staff, room okay”

Stayed here for 1 night - we arrived 1 day earlier than planned in Memphis (booked Days Inn for the following night) so found this Scottish Inn on Elvis Presley Blvd - it looked okay from the outside and had rooms available so thought we'd give it a go...

First impressions were terrible - went in to reception and was basically ignored for 5 or 6 minutes, despite ringing the bell for attention. The staff were in a room right around the corner from the reception so must have known that customers were waiting. When the receptionist finally appeared we had no apology - in fact she was quite dismissive and rude to us - a very "matter of fact" tone and didn't volunteer any information about the room. A very, very poor reception and this set the scene for this hotel for our stay.

The room itself was large and adequate - nothing special for the high rate we were charged though.

My advice - stay at Days Inn down the road - see my review - staff much, much nicer and right next to Graceland.

Upon arrival to Scottish Inn the owner explained that she had one room left. After a long drive from Texas my friend and I decided to take it. We were given a smoking room without warning (I’m allergic to smoke) but because it was already midnight I thought I would try to suck it up by leaving the windows open. I inspected the bed for bud bugs. Good news was I did not find any bed bugs; however, the sheets appeared used and hair was all over the sheets, pillows and mattress cover. The pillows were covered in stains and had a disgusting stench. The bathroom had a strong odor of urine and hair on the floor and in the tub. At that point, we decided ask for a refund. The owner charged us $10.00 because she had to pay somebody to remake the bed. I would rather sleep on the sidewalk than stay at this place. If I could give this hotel a rating of zero I would. Stay far away from the Scottish Inn!

“Spacious & clean rooms, low rates, walk to Graceland”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 May 2010

Stayed at this location for two nights last week, me and two friends with adjoining rooms. Clean room and bathroom, beds were comfortable for sleeping but glad I brought my own pillow. Quiet both day and night. Gated parking area - very welcome to me, as I drive a luxury car and the area around the motel is a bit sketchy. Check-in was easy, and the girl at the desk was efficient if not overly happy to see us. Wi-fi only available in the lobby, not in the guest rooms. There is also a desktop computer for guest use in the lobby. Continental breakfast was toast, sweet rolls, two cold cereal choices. The bowl of fruit was past its' prime. The owner told me she had just hard-boiled the eggs that morning. Very strict about not taking food away from the dining area, although not a problem taking my coffee with me (which was surprisingly good, by the way).
No joke, less than 10 minutes' walk to Graceland, saving $10. to park. For other sightseeing, we were within 15 - 20 minutes drive of Sun Studios, Stax and Beale Street. My friend took a taxi back from Beale one night and it was just $8.00.
If you like to have water, drinks or snacks in your room - get them during the daytime. We stopped at the gas station on the corner one night at 11pm, and the place was on lockdown. You could walk to a window and shout at the clerk through the safety glass, requesting whatever you like- they retrieved it (and were very nice about it, too), and put it in a drawer to be shoved through the wall for you to take. I guess one too many robberies?
As you probably read in other reviews, there are very little dining options around the motel. We did get some fries at Checkers across the street - delish!
Go downtown to Rendezvous for the best barbeque - and Marlowe's was good too (although we skipped the pink limo service).
The Kettle on Brooks Road - Authentic, low-frills, excellent service and wonderful country breakfast buffet at a local restaurant less than a mile away (the hotel office recommended I Hop when we asked for a good breakfast recommendation - are you serious??).
All in all, Scottish Inn and Suites was just fine and I'm glad I ignored prior negative comments. I would stay there again.

“Staff were very rude and not at all helpful”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2009

Female 'Owner' was extremely rude and not at all helpful. Needs a lesson in etiquette and social graces and should not be on the Reception Desk. I would never recommend this place to anyone to stay. Over priced for the weekend especially and the breakfast was stale and the coffee was undrinkable. Again the femal owner watched every move we made in the breakfast room in case we ate too much food. The internet was advertised as being free and we were charged for using it for 5 mins. No sign was up to show there was a fee. A total rip off place.
