“Good hotel in a good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

This is a nicer, hotel, very clean and modern. The location is about 5 or 6 blocks off of Beale Street. The trolley stops right in front of the hotel, and will take you to Beale Street for $1.

The breakfast was good for a continental style hotel breakfast.

The hotel has valet parking, which sets you back $12 per usage. Be forewarned!

Room Tip: Some roooms require you to get off of the first elevator, walk a few hallways, and take a second ele...

“All around excellent experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

Myself and three family members stayed here for a race in town. Overall we were all pleased, and I would definitely stay here again.

Regarding pricing, the hotel gave 20% off of the rate for being with the race, but looking at prices for other weekends, it seems the prices were raised about that much... so really not much of a discount. However, $135 a night for a downtown suite is fairly reasonable. Valet parking was $12 a night, on top of that.

We were on the quiet side of the hotel so had no noise concerns. The room was clean and the bed and sofa bed were both comfortable. The hotel itself was decorated very tastefully for Christmas which was a nice touch.

The breakfast was one of the best I've had in a hotel- everything from yogurt, cereal/milk, biscuits/gravy, scrambled and boiled eggs, sausage, canadian bacon, muffins, toast, bagels, fresh fruit, juices, coffee, waffles. Staff kept it clean and well stocked.

The staff were extremely friendly. I had at least five employees say welcome, how are things, etc. during our two night stay.

The location is great. It's easily accessible to the interstate, right by a trolley stop, and within walking distance of most things downtown.

“Comfy beds and overall very nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011 via mobile

Yes, the trolley does run late, so if you want quiet, stay on side facing river. But-- of you will be out into the late evening, go for a room with balcony. They are few but face the park and it's a nice place to enjoy a good conversation, glass of wine, or breakfast. Loved the beds.. Very comfortable. And the kitchen with own sink was nice. Will stay here again.

“Staff almost compensates for the room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

I'm platinum with Marriott and have top status with several other hotels. I spend 200 night a year traveling for business. I booked 3 nights at the Springhill Suites, Memphis for a quiet getaway with the wife.

Arrived on Sunday afternoon and tried to check in an hour early but were turned away. Not a problem since we received great directions for Neeley's BBQ. Got back and were checked in and transferred our luggage to the room. There is a nightly parking charge of 12.00 but that includes valet service and those attendants did a wonderful job during our stay.

My wife tends to take a critical eye to hotel rooms since she is a state health inspector. She rated the room as average, bathroom clean, no bedbugs, stains on the carpet and hair on the pillows(the pillow case was clean but the pillows themselves were dirty). We had brought our own pillows so not a major issue.

The biggest challenge was the noise. We were near the elevator on the only level that provided the access to the other wing of the hotel. Our windows faced the trolly stop approximately 40 feet from the window. The trolly clangs from 6 am to midnight.

Through the years I've learned hotels tend to treat clients redeeming award nights one of two ways, (A. the best available room or B. the worst). I think Springhill Suites is a fan of option B.

We made do with the room and enjoyed the location of the hotel immensely. On checking out, I was asked about our stay and responded that all the staff had been wonderful but the room a disappointment. I explained the issue and was told that the manager would contact me about my concerns. It has been 3 weeks without a follow-up.

So, while I still reccomend the hotel for the location and staff, I would reccomend your taking a more aggressive approach than I did and insist on a clean room away from the trolley.

One more food tip - Gus's Fried Chicken is worth the wait!!

Room Tip: Stay away from the Trolley side of the hotel

“Great location/noisy on Main St side”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

This is a very nice place to stay. Great hot breakfast and very nice rooms. The staff was extremely pleasant. We stayed on the third floor on the Main St side. Beware - the trolley runs till 1:30 am and was very noisy. I would definitely stay again but not on that side.

There is really nothing at all to do in downtown Memphis other than a few museums and Beale St (which was some superb music/food). No shopping whatsoever - a Dollar General or something like that was right by our hotel. Not what I had in mind to shop. I was very disappointed in the lack of things to do downtown. Had planned to stay for 4-5 days and left after 3. Sundays are completely dead.

Room Tip: Do not stay on Main St side.
