During our stay in Heartbreak Hotel, we decided to stay in the "Graceland" suite. The suite was extra large, consisting of a replica living room, dinning room, TV room, bedroom with dressing area and shower room. The only drawer back was the cleaning staff forever asking if we wanted our room serviced. You would think paying nearly $400 for the room, per night, cleaning and bed making was standard. Other than that this hotel is a great location for visiting Graceland. The hotel has a very small shop, bar serving food, small gym, business area and pool (seasonal). ATM cash machine also within hotel. Breakfast is included in the price of your stay. Buffet style fare, including cereals, breads, etc.The hotel is located near the Graceland mansion and all the EPE owned shops. I've listed below a few tips, etc:
1. It might be worth your while joing the ELVIS INSIDERS via www.elvis.com. If you join you will get 10% of Heartbreak Hotel (must book room direct), EPE owned shops and restaurants and Sun Studio's.
2. Hotel offers free airport shuttle. Phone to arrange pick up from airport, located by exit doors in the luggage collection area. Note: free shuttle stops at 9.30pm. Taxi stand also located outside exit.
3. Marlowe's offers a free pink caddy pick up from Heartbreak Hotel. Ring direct from pink phone in hotel lobby. Marlowe's offer typical american food.
4. A little known fact is Elvis Presley owned a ranch. This is only about a 10 minute car journey from Graceland. The Circle G Ranch is the place where Elvis and his wife spent part of their honeymoon. The ranch is in a state of disrepair now but well worth a look.
5. Graceland Barn tours are available on certain times of the year. A brilliant tour and you get to meet the Graceland horses. These horses were rescued from slaughter/mistreatment by Priscilla Presley. Check with guest services within the ticket office for times/dates.
6. Sun Studios will pick you up free from Heartbreak Hotel.
7.The Peabody Hotel is the oldest and grandest hotel in Memphis. You will get to see the famous Peabody Ducks, plus this is where Lansky's is located. Lansky's is the shop Elvis bought most of his clothes from the 50's until his death.
8.The Civil rights museum including the Lorraine's motel. Dr Martin Luther King was killed here and this museum tells the story of the struggle of the black people and the death of King. A moving place to visit.
9. Tupelo, Mississippi is Elvis Presley's birthplace. About a 2hr drive from Memphis but well worth a visit. You will get to see the shot gun shack where Elvis was born along with his still born twin brother. The family church and Elvis museum. I went with Mike Freeman's Tupelo tours.
10. Memphis tour. Again I used Mike Freeman's tours.
11. Laurderdale Court. This is the Presley family's apartment. The complex was a public housing development but now private homes but the Presley apartment is open to the public to visit and even stay in.
12. Dolan Drive is at the side of Graceland. This is the home of Elvis' father, Vernon. Elvis used to walk from the back of Graceland (by the barns) to the back entrance to his fathers home. This home is privately owned but sometimes Elvis events are held here and opened to the public.
13.VIP Graceland tours. Alot more expensive than ordinary tickets but you do jump to the front of the queue, visit an extra room at the Mansion with alot more exhibits and see the back of Graceland and it's grounds.
14. For those who have never visited the USA before, tipping is a way of life here. Make sure you have $1 bills handy.
15. Graceland tours include: Mansion, car museum, sincerley Elvis, the Lisa Marie plane and the Jet star, the '68 Comeback special and the new "Elvis on Tour" exhibit.
16. Phones are at the back of the lobby, in Heartbreak Hotel. I never use my mobile, other than to text, as costs less to phone from public phones, in hotel. The code from USA to UK is 44. You must drop the zero from the UK area code, example: -----.
EPE are in the processing of developing the area around Graceland. Within the next couple of years a new, bigger hotel is being built. New shops and exhibits area are also planned.
Hope all this info helps.
