“Think Before you Book”

Stayed at the Heatbreak Hotel in November 2011 for our 25th Anniversary present from my husband. Was a little disappointed with the Hotel - view from the hotel room was the wall of the building. Staff asked every day if we needed our room cleaned and if towels were required which I would have thought would have been cleaned/changed every day. The bathroom needed a good clean. Front desk staff were not at all friendly. Miss B was very friendly the first day offering advice on tours to which she gave us a number to call - we did use her friend to go downtown but later was asked by Miss B for a "little something". We decided not to use her friend and after that she ignored us for the rest of our stay. So be warned!!

The graceland experience was really good and the staff very helpful and informative. Got more information from here than the hotel.

We were amazed about downtown Memphis other than Beale Street at night and the Peabody ducks at 11.am not a lot happening. The trams were amazing. We did find the local bus depot and took a bus to the shopping mall which was a lot cheaper than the organised tours to the Malls but some may find this a little daunting!!

I enjoyed our trip to Gracelands as it was my dream to visit but think about the Hotel and perhaps stay for 1 of 2 nights only.

“An amazibg experience”

Recently stayed here for 2 nights, I was a but worried when reading the reviews before travelling but was totally amazed when I arrived.

When arriving into Memphis and you have collected your cases before you exit out the doors there is a telephone which you can use to contact the hotel which sends a free bus to pick you up! Check in was quick and the staff so friendly giving us loads of information.

We stayed on the 3rd floor and when we walked into our room we were very happy with it. We had 2 big double beds that were very comfortable and plenty of pillows on them. There was a TV which loads of channels, which off course showed plenty of Elvis films. The rooms were spacious and had 2 nice pictures of Elvis over the beds. We were there two nights and had our beds and towels changed whilst there!!! Breakfast is included which includes cerels, bread, muffins etc just as your expect, the brekafast is watched by Mrs B who is very friendly and entertaining.

Graceland is just amazing, what an experience! Its only a few minutes walk down the road. Do wonder down there at night as they have the mansion and tress all lit up which looks really nice. Stand outside the hotel and you can see Elvis plane the "Lisa Marie"

The hotel runs a free bus to Sun studios which you get off and do a paid tour. It was interesting and you stand in the actual room where Elvis done his first recording, I would say do this tour found it very interesting. After you get dropped off at the Rock Museum, to be honest this was a bit boring so we just skipped thru a lot of it. from there Beale Street is only a stones away, we were there during hte day so not much happening apart from people standing outside buildings tryign to get you to go in and eat. Head north from Beale street and just down the road is the Mississippi, during some time of the year they have paddle boats you can go on but they dont run the time of year we went. This area is a distance from Graceland you can not walk it.

I would recommend anyone visiting Memphis to stay at this hotel, friendly staff and very clean. I would say 2/3 nights is enough time and wont stay any longer then this, then we did go in a season which isnt very busy so we had no queues etc.

Going to Graceland was one of the best times of my life. I had always dreamed of going there
but thoght it would never happen. I have been there 3 times and if I had my way it would be
a yearly trip. My first trip we were just driving through and the mansion was really all we got to see. The second time was with friends, and the third time I went with my daughter. Now she understand why there is no other place I would rather be. Thank You for wonderful memories.

“Great for Graceland”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

During our stay in Heartbreak Hotel, we decided to stay in the "Graceland" suite. The suite was extra large, consisting of a replica living room, dinning room, TV room, bedroom with dressing area and shower room. The only drawer back was the cleaning staff forever asking if we wanted our room serviced. You would think paying nearly $400 for the room, per night, cleaning and bed making was standard. Other than that this hotel is a great location for visiting Graceland. The hotel has a very small shop, bar serving food, small gym, business area and pool (seasonal). ATM cash machine also within hotel. Breakfast is included in the price of your stay. Buffet style fare, including cereals, breads, etc.The hotel is located near the Graceland mansion and all the EPE owned shops. I've listed below a few tips, etc:
1. It might be worth your while joing the ELVIS INSIDERS via www.elvis.com. If you join you will get 10% of Heartbreak Hotel (must book room direct), EPE owned shops and restaurants and Sun Studio's.
2. Hotel offers free airport shuttle. Phone to arrange pick up from airport, located by exit doors in the luggage collection area. Note: free shuttle stops at 9.30pm. Taxi stand also located outside exit.
3. Marlowe's offers a free pink caddy pick up from Heartbreak Hotel. Ring direct from pink phone in hotel lobby. Marlowe's offer typical american food.
4. A little known fact is Elvis Presley owned a ranch. This is only about a 10 minute car journey from Graceland. The Circle G Ranch is the place where Elvis and his wife spent part of their honeymoon. The ranch is in a state of disrepair now but well worth a look.
5. Graceland Barn tours are available on certain times of the year. A brilliant tour and you get to meet the Graceland horses. These horses were rescued from slaughter/mistreatment by Priscilla Presley. Check with guest services within the ticket office for times/dates.
6. Sun Studios will pick you up free from Heartbreak Hotel.
7.The Peabody Hotel is the oldest and grandest hotel in Memphis. You will get to see the famous Peabody Ducks, plus this is where Lansky's is located. Lansky's is the shop Elvis bought most of his clothes from the 50's until his death.
8.The Civil rights museum including the Lorraine's motel. Dr Martin Luther King was killed here and this museum tells the story of the struggle of the black people and the death of King. A moving place to visit.
9. Tupelo, Mississippi is Elvis Presley's birthplace. About a 2hr drive from Memphis but well worth a visit. You will get to see the shot gun shack where Elvis was born along with his still born twin brother. The family church and Elvis museum. I went with Mike Freeman's Tupelo tours.
10. Memphis tour. Again I used Mike Freeman's tours.
11. Laurderdale Court. This is the Presley family's apartment. The complex was a public housing development but now private homes but the Presley apartment is open to the public to visit and even stay in.
12. Dolan Drive is at the side of Graceland. This is the home of Elvis' father, Vernon. Elvis used to walk from the back of Graceland (by the barns) to the back entrance to his fathers home. This home is privately owned but sometimes Elvis events are held here and opened to the public.
13.VIP Graceland tours. Alot more expensive than ordinary tickets but you do jump to the front of the queue, visit an extra room at the Mansion with alot more exhibits and see the back of Graceland and it's grounds.
14. For those who have never visited the USA before, tipping is a way of life here. Make sure you have $1 bills handy.
15. Graceland tours include: Mansion, car museum, sincerley Elvis, the Lisa Marie plane and the Jet star, the '68 Comeback special and the new "Elvis on Tour" exhibit.
16. Phones are at the back of the lobby, in Heartbreak Hotel. I never use my mobile, other than to text, as costs less to phone from public phones, in hotel. The code from USA to UK is 44. You must drop the zero from the UK area code, example: -----.

EPE are in the processing of developing the area around Graceland. Within the next couple of years a new, bigger hotel is being built. New shops and exhibits area are also planned.

Hope all this info helps.
