“Beautiful inside, secure outside”

Doesn't look like much from the outside and the immediate neighborhood looks sketchy, but true to the reviews this is a great hotel. We were allowed to bring our animal, and upon arriving the room smelled great. Large rooms, clean, hair dryer, fridge, granite counters, microwave, coffee maker, iron, board. Great service, and good breakfast. Thanks rodeway, our stay couldn't have been better.

“Don't understand the negativity”

I personally had absolutely no problem with the hotel. I enjoyed the personal touch of the curry and other Indian spices that greet your palate when you walk in the lobby. The price was dropped for us after a long car ride. We were greeted by a huge room (the only downside was the fact that it was on third floor). This hotel is located right off of Union Ave, and right down Union you can find Dunkin' Donuts and CK's Coffee Shop as well as many fast food establishments so if you don't like the breakfast there you can go down the road. I didn't find the neighborhood all that bad, if the neighbors would rake and the road would be re-paved then there would be absolutely no problem with the area. There was one incident when a man passing by told us he was stranded and asked for money, but you can't really go to a big city and not expect to be asked for money at least once. I come from an extremely rough neighborhood and this was quite a step up from what we have here.

My only two complaints (are completely understandable) would have to do with the bed and the mini-fridge. The bed was a bit firm, but after full days it was more than inviting; and the mini-fridge (provided at no extra charge so I was perfectly happy to get it) was cooled through the freezer, meaning products put too close to the freezing area would freeze themselves. Did you know cheese crumbles easily after its been frozen? I didn't.

The location was great for the price and the management is very nice. For the price you get a clean room and great management. I would recommend if you're looking for somewhere affordable for your stay in Memphis:)

I stayed at Rodeway INN Memphis in the first week of October with a mate of mine and it was great value for money .The room was a very spacious and clean it also had a small fridge which many of the upmarket hotels do not have unless you pay extra and the bathroom was a good size and the rooms were cleaned each day and new bath towels were supplied each day .The manager of the hotel was very helpful he printed out the time tables for the buses to go to downtown and Graceland and the location of the hotel was good as it was only a short bus ride either way .I asked the manager Harry if they had a computer you could use to check emails and he told me they didn't have one but he told me he had a spare lap top of his own and i could use it whenever i liked which was great .The breakfast in the morning is a help yourself and what they provide is good cereal toast cakes bagels jam coffee and tea and lots of fruit .I will certainly use this hotel when i come back next year .

“Scary as hell”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

My sister and I booked this hotel online after reading over all the hotels close to the Beale Street area. We knew ahead of time that the outside of the hotel was rated by others as very undesirable and nothing to look at. When we arrived on 10/22, we were aghast at the area. It was surrounded by Section 8 buildings with no lighting around. There were no cars at the hotel and this was on a Saturday at prime time check in. When we went into the lobby (which was through a door with bars on it) we were hit with the smell of strong Indian spices that permiated throughout the tiny lobby. In the corner was what was supposed to be the continental breakfast area, and it was filthy. We were afraid to touch anything in the lobby and were told our room wasn't ready for check-in. We left and happened to find an Econo Lodge motel very close to Beale, for just a few more dollars per night, and it had a parking garage and was clean. We were VERY deceived by the description of this hotel and wouldn't feel safe walking or driving around that area even in the middle of the day. It wasn't just "nothing special," it was scary and disgusting and someplace you would expect a night's stay to cost you $29.99 a night. We ended up getting charged for the night even though we didn't stay there. We are disputing this charge on our credit card and will not pay for a disgusting place that deceived tourists who book online. We ended up staying at another Choice Hotel, so we kept within the Choice Hotel name, which means there are places under Choice that are respectable, clean and decent. DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT STAY HERE.
