I used the Tripadvisor 8.7 rating and happily got this room for $47 "flash deal" for a last minute college visit, but I think you should still know what you're getting, regardless of the price you pay. First, the positives: Nice entry area and breakfast area - stylish and inviting; nicely laid out and lovely furnishings and carpet. Spacious and quiet and clean room, comfortable beds, and kitchenette with micro, minifridge, and coffee maker. Nice looking room (except for the "vintage" bathroom); free wifi and parking, Very safe suburban location with lots of chain stores and restaurants and a shopping mall within walking distance. Generous generic hot and cold breakfast items including egg "patties," sausage, make your own waffle, instant oatmeal & grits (so southern), fresh fruit, yogurt, bagels, muffins, danishes, bread to toast, butter, jams and spreads, cold cereals, juices and milk, teas, and coffee. Now for the bad: The room was a smoking room on a smoking floor (room 406) even though the reservation specified non-smoking (we went to a nearby gas station and bought car air fresheners and put them on the AC unit which helped somewhat); the bathrooms were so old and strange and small! Pink square tile (from the 70's?) and spindly rusty bent wire towel bars, ceiling so low it was like being in a closet (but it was clean at least). The location was safe since it was a nice suburb, but it is about 20 minutes to drive downtown, which was fine for us but some people would mind so it could be a negative if you didn't know. Also, the desk clerks had a major attitude when we checked in (which is why I didn't want to complain about the smoky room). I asked for an upgrade - and offered to pay for it- to get a larger room with a sofa bed so my kids (a boy and a teen girl) wouldn't have to share or have one sleep on the floor, but the clerks acted like I was crazy to even ask because of the rate I got - but, again, I DID offer to pay for the upgrade. So we had brought blankets in the car so we brought them in and one kid slept on the floor - so now we have three blankets and two pillows in the laundry room waiting to be washed to get the smoke smell out. Would I stay here again? Maybe (for $47 and not much more). But I would make sure the room was nonsmoking and ask to be moved if it wasn't regardless of the clerk's attitudes. But, I have no idea what else is available in Memphis and for what price.
Room Tip: Floor 4 seemed to be a smoking floor

Dear Ms. H--thank you for completing our survey and letting us know about our performance; your words, as are all guest comments and reviews, are shared by our entire staff. I am sorry you did not like the decor of the bathroom although we did a major renovation of the entire hotel last year. I have already made a note of it and will be speaking to our interior designer about her thoughts. Please let me know the next time you will be returing to the Memphis area, and I would love to make it up to you. If there is anything else which I can do for you, please let me know.
