My girlfriend and I stayed at Baylett for two nights for a quiet weekend of rest away from home after a busy few months of work. We were so pleased with the B&B - it was so thoughtfully decorated and very comfortable. The host, Pat, was very pleasant, showing us to our room and giving us a few tips on where to go and what to see before simply leaving us at peace.
Breakfast was fantastic - fruit, cereal and yougurt, then a cooked breakfast with haggis and lovely grilled bacon being the best parts. Endless toast and coffee left us set up happily for the day. We particularly liked how Pat had taken so much care to lay the table in her beautiful dining room for breakfast - we took particular note of her lovely Denby china set.
The room was lovely, with a view over the loch in the mornings. Nice touches included lots of tea, coffee and biscuits. A half decanter of sherry, and some mint chocolates. All the furnishings are high quality too.
One of the nicest aspects of our trip was on our second afternoon we arrived back at the B&B for a rest before changing to go out for dinner. Pat lit the wood fire in the living room for us, and invited us down to relax on the sofa. Just as we were heading out the front door later, Pat's husband caught up with me to ask if we wanted a lift so I could drink and wouldn;t have to drive back. I politely declined, but his offer was genuine and very much appreciated.
During the day we explored Portpatrick, the lighthouse on the Mull of Galloway and just soaked up the sea air.
A fantastic break all round, and will 100% return to Baylett. It's a shame so many people use it as a quick sleep before/after catching the ferry - it's a great place for a short break in its own right.
