Our entire stay (1 night) was, in retrospect, a comedy of errors. My wife and I had booked accomodation for a stay of 3 nights. The reports on Tripadvisor were mixed but we had stayed at this hotel before (in 2006) and it was OK, so we decided to take a chance.
Confusion started as soon as we arrived. The girl who checked us in was unaware that we had a booking, showed us several unsuitable rooms, and then finally twigged that we had a booking and sorted us out.
The room itself was fine but had a complicated shower/sauna/jaccuzi device in the bathroom which required a degree in hydraulic engineering to operate successfully, something we did not manage.
We declined to have dinner there (£25 per head for 2 courses). In our opinion, the hotel is missing out on much potential meal business by not offering bar meals in the evening.
The main problem arose after we settled down for the night. The hotel was not busy, with only one other couple staying that night. However, I could not get to sleep for the incessant and noisy chattering of what must have been members of the staff. This went on and on and on. The only relief came when the fire alarm went off at 2am, caused, to be fair, by an external power supply problem. The chatter continued thereafter until about 3.10am, when it mercifully stopped.
Breakfast was poor, continental only, with a small selection .
My wife and I agreed that we should leave immediately after breakfast .
In many ways, it was a great pity. The hotel is situated in a stunning location, in an area with great potential for up-market tourism. The owner however needs to get his act together, to provide and deliver the quality and extent of product that the area needs.
